Tools Needed

You will need a ratchet set, torque wrench, and dial indicator. Lubrication might be needed for the hubs.

How to Use

• Step 1: Before starting, ensure that the power to the system is turned off. Remove any debris, dirt, or rust from the shafts and hubs to ensure a clean installation.
• Step 2: If you are replacing a worn-out spider gasket, remove the old one carefully.
• Step 3: Slide the two Lovejoy coupling hubs onto the shafts, ensuring they are properly seated. The hubs should be aligned concentrically with the shafts. If necessary, use a key to secure the hubs to the shafts.
• Step 4: Place the Lovejoy Spider Gasket into the cavity between the two hubs. Ensure that the spider gasket’s teeth align properly with the grooves in the hubs.
• Step 5: Gently press the spider gasket into place, making sure it is seated correctly and evenly.
• Step 6: Use an alignment tool to check the alignment between the shafts. Misalignment can lead to wear on the spider gasket and reduce the efficiency of the coupling. Adjust the position of the hubs as necessary to achieve proper alignment.
• Step 7: Use a wrench or ratchet set to tighten the bolts securing the hubs onto the shafts. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommended torque specifications to avoid over-tightening or under-tightening the bolts.
• Step 8: Once the spider gasket is installed, turn on the system and run it through a few cycles. Listen for unusual noises or vibrations and check for signs of excessive heat. If you notice any irregularities, turn off the system and inspect the installation.
