Keith's Pro Tips

"When putting a backpack sprayer on, it'd be wise for you to first put it on a raised surface like a chair or a table to make it easier to put on when full so you don't have to strain your back getting it on."

Pesticide Backpack Sprayers

A backpack sprayer is similar to a handheld pump sprayer, except it has a much larger spray capacity. It allows for the precise application of pesticides and herbicides in areas too large for a handheld pump sprayer to easily cover, such as a wide area on a lawn or the perimeters of larger structures.

Solutions Pest & Lawn carries a variety of backpack sprayers designed to save you time and make it convenient for you to conduct a large volume treatment to a wide area. This is mainly due to the fact that our backpack sprayers come with padded backing and straps, making it very easy to comfortably carry around large amounts of chemical.

Recommendation

For both the general and professional user, we recommend the Solutions Battery Powered Backpack Sprayer. It’s user-friendly, lightweight and maneuverable, and it's lithium-ion battery powered so it does not require hand pumping to create pressure.

User Guide

Step 1: Fill the Reservoir

First, fill the reservoir half full with water (about 2 gallons when using a 4-gallon capacity sprayer). Then refer to your pesticide product's manual for the proper mix rate per gallon of water. Measure out the amount instructed and add it to the water, then replace the cap and screw it down tight. Agitate the mixture until it’s a uniform solution. Unscrew the cap and finish filling the remaining space with water. Screw the cap back on tight and agitate once more.

Step 2: Flip the Switch and Put on The Harness

Once your reservoir is filled and your solution is mixed, simply flip the switch on the battery pack to the ON position. The battery-powered pump will immediately begin pressurizing the system. Put on the backpack harness and ensure all straps are tight and secure.

Step 3: Spray

To spray simply depress the spray button found on the wand. The Solutions Backpack Sprayer is designed with an adjustable tip, so you can easily adjust your spray pattern during a job without having to stop and switch guns or tips. It is recommended that you only mix what you need for your specific application such that when you are done spraying the reservoir is completely empty and ready to be flushed out and stored.

Inspection and Maintenance

It is recommended that you inspect your Solutions Battery Powered Backpack Sprayer before each use and that you flush and empty the system once your application is complete, especially if you store your equipment for a long time between uses.

Inspection

To inspect the system, first make a visual inspection looking for any obvious damage, such as tears in the hose, or a hole in the reservoir, etc. If none are found, add a little water to the reservoir, activate the electric pump and spray some into a patch of grass or dirt to ensure the unit is still holding pressure and there are no leaks. If everything appears normal, finish adding your pesticide product and the remaining water.

Charging

Remember this unit is powered by a lithium-ion cell. If the cell is not charged the internal pump will not create pressure. Take care not to overcharge this cell by leaving it plugged in for an extended perior of time.

Flushing the System

It is recommended that after each treatment you thoroughly rinse out your Solutions sprayer and spray the rinsate out over the treatment area. This will ensure your sprayer is kept in good condition between applications. It is not recommended that you store mixed product inside the sprayer unit as in some cases the product make lose efficacy over time and it could cause damage to your sprayer.

Parts

This backpack sprayer consists of the lithium-ion battery pack, the reservoir, the hose, the wand, the spray tip, and the harness.

Lithium-Ion Battery Pack

The Solutions Battery Powred Backpack Sprayer is internally powered, unlike handheld sprayers which are pumped manually. This increases user convenience and reduces operator fatigue. A full charge allows for up to two and a half hours of spray time. Simply flip a switch and start spraying.

The Reservoir

The reservoir holds the mixed product until you’re ready to spray. Our recommended unit has a four-gallon reservoir which is enough to treat the perimeter of a large structure or even a wider area such as a yard or field.

The Hose

The hose connects the reservoir to the wand and the spray product travels through it on its way to the sprayer tip.

The Wand

The wand is the part that the operator holds and uses to aim the chemical spray. The Solutions Backpack Sprayer's wand is made of a durable stainless steel, perfect for most jobs.

The Spray Tip

The spray tip focuses the spray as it leaves the wand. Our backpack sprayer has an adjustable tip for added versatility. This allows for multiple spray configurations, such as a fine mist, cone spray, or pin stream.

The Harness

Backpack sprayers come with either two back straps or a full harness rig.

  • Remember don’t overcharge your lithium-ion batteries, over time they will degrade due to improper charging practices. Refer to your product’s manual for best charging practices.
