Keith's Pro Tips

"Refilling a mosquito misting system is easy. The misting system itself will usually tell you when you are running low with a warning. Then you can pour in concentrate and the appropriate amount of water or attach the container of concentrate into the coupler, depending on your model."

Mosquito Misting System Refill

Mosquito misting systems take the labor out of a mosquito control program outside of your home and allow you to enjoy your backyard again in prime summer months when outdoor activity with your family is appreciated. However, keeping your misting system well-stocked with misting concentrate is essential.

Misting Concentrates are explicitly made to work with professional misting systems to effectively kill mosquitoes, flies, and other flying insect pests. Solutions Pest and Lawn has some of the best professional-grade misting solutions available if you own a mosquito misting system and need misting to concentrate.

Misting in action

Natural pyrethrins and synthetic permethrin are the most common chemical types used in misting-based mosquito treatment. Pyrethrins (also referred to as pyrethrums) are botanical extracts from chrysanthemum flowers that effectively kill irritating insects. Permethrin is a synthetic version of pyrethrins that delivers the same fast-acting knockdown but has a longer residual so that it stays effective for longer.

When it comes to refilling a mosquito misting system, we recommend Flex 10-10. This emulsifiable concentrate contains 10% permethrin and 10% PBO. This liquid pesticide is great for mosquito control, working quickly to kill mosquitoes and other flying pests. It has a broad label and can even be used to treat pests with conventional hose-end and hand-pump sprayers for both outdoor and indoor pest control.

User Guide

Step 1: Determine Your Mix Rate

Refilling a misting unit with concentrate is simple. Depending on your misting system, you will first need to check the label of your misting concentrate to see what the concentrate and dilution ratios are for misting system applications. Find the misting concentrate dilution ratio for the tank size of your misting system (30-gallon, 55-gallon, etc.), and then note it for the refill.

Flex 10-10 is labeled for use with either a 1:100 dilution ratio or a 1:55 ratio, which is for severe infestations and hard-to-control pests. For the 1:100 dilution, you must mix 11.6 fl. oz. per 10 gallons of water. Use the 1:55 dilution ratio by mixing 23.25 fl. oz. per 10 gallons of water.

Check the dilution table on the Flex 10-10 label to find the right rate for your tank size. Misting systems can vary in size, but the average unit is typically 55 gallons. So, if you had a 55-gallon mosquito misting system and wanted to use a 1:100 dilution ratio, you would need to mix 64 fluid ounces of Flex 10-10 with 54.5 gallons of water to create a 55-gallon finished solution.

Step 2: Add Water and Concentrate To the Unit

If you have a mosquito misting system with a drum, partially fill the drum with water and add the proper amount of the concentrate based on the misting concentrate label findings. Top off the drum with the rest of the needed water, and then program your system to agitate or mix the concentrate with the water.

If you have a tankless mosquito misting system, remove the empty bottle from the coupler, thread the cap onto a new bottle of Flex 10-10, and insert it into the coupler. You should then program your system to mix the solution so it is ready for the next misting.

Inspection and Maintenance

It is important to inspect your misting system regularly, preferably in between scheduled misting applications, to check for the misting concentration levels in the system. Usually, misting systems have indicators that show the concentration levels and present a warning when the misting concentrate is going low and is on the brink of becoming empty so that you can refill your system.

How often you perform a refill depends on how usually you use the misting system. It may be more or less frequently based on your usage.

Key Takeaways

  • Misting Concentrates are an essential component of your mosquito misting system. Without it, your misting system will be unable to kill or repel mosquitoes that invade the property.
  • Regardless of the model, our top recommendation for mosquito misting systems is Flex 10-10 Insecticide.
  • Check the concentration levels of your misting system and make refills as needed. The system should make it easy to know when to refill with indicators and warnings when it is low.
