Pigments
Pigments (also known in the industry as turf colorants) are products that are applied to lawn and turf areas for the aesthetic purposes of a natural, green, healthy-looking lawn. By applying pigment to an area, you are essentially painting it in a way that is not damaging to the plants, purely for visual reasons, so the plants look greener and more pleasing to the eye.
Pigments or turf colorants have long been used to improve the look of golf courses, sports turf, and other landscapes, giving the grass a beautiful green color. Applying a pigment will make it look nice if you have a diseased, damaged, or bad-looking area.
Applying pigment to a lawn area is very easy to do. Simply add a small amount, following label directions for specifics, to a tank sprayer and apply an even coating to the area you would like treated.

How to Use Pigments
Step 1: Mix up the Pigment with Water
Determine how much pigment solution to add by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find this square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage).
Apply 16 to 20 oz. of Foursome Turf Pigment per acre of turf.
Fill the spray tank with one-half to two-thirds volume of water. With agitation on and following the standard order of addition, add Foursome Plus Turf Pigment after dry flowable and dispersible granules and before water-soluble pesticide formulations.
Allow the product to fully disperse and mix into the spray solution before adding additional products.
Step 2: Apply Pigment Solution
Make application of pesticide solution mix to target site at rate specified on pesticide manufacturer's label.
Make sure to coat your lawn evenly. You may have to pass through the area twice, ideally in a perpendicular fashion, so that you are able to achieve a uniform look. It’s always best to start with a lower application rate on the initial passes and re-apply to achieve the deeper color if desired.
Be careful not to get the pigment on anything you don’t want to be stained. When spraying along concrete or hardscape surfaces, a large piece of cardboard or thin plywood can be used to shield the hard surface from the spray pigment.
As the season progresses and regular maintenance is done to your lawn (watering, mowing, etc.), the product may not be as bright and may need a follow-up application.
