"For best post-emergent results when using Rimsuluron, make when the target weed is young and actively growing. A surfactant is also suggested to enhance effectiveness."

Rimsulfuron

If you are dealing with stubborn annual broadleaf weeds on landscapes, one of the best actives you can use is Rimsulfuron. Rimsulfuron is known to be effective against poa annua and ryegrass.

On this page we will share with you some background info about Rimsulfuron, it’s mode of action and benefits.

What is Rimsulfuron?

Rimsulfuron is a chemical compound that belongs to the sulfonylureas family of organic compounds. Rimsulfuron has commonly been used as a herbicide on agricultural farms to provide control around maize, citrus fruits and nuts.

On landscapes, Rimosulfuron is known to provide post-emergent systemic control of annual and perennial broad-leaf weeds and sedges. Products containing Rimsulfuron can be applied as a foliar spray, where it will be absorbed through the plant's leaves and travels down to the plants' roots for control.

How Does Rimsulfuron Work?

Mode of Action

Rimsulfuron’s mode of action involves interfering with the acetolactate synthase enzyme in targeted weeds. This inhibition leads to the slowing of cell division, and hinders the growth of the weed at all phases of development.

Acetolactate synthase (ALS), also known as acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) is an important enzyme in plants. Without this enzyme, the plant cannot produce specific amino acids (isoleucine, leucine and valine) thereby preventing protein formation.

Benefits of Rimsulfuron

Rimsulfuron is a flexible herbicide in that it is both a pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicide. This gives the active flexibility in killing established weeds that have already germinated in an area, as well as keep weeds from growing in the first place.

Use Rimsulfuron for weed control on warm-season grasses to control weeds like Spotted Spurge, Henbit, Annual Bluegrass, Chickweed and others.

Drawbacks of Rimsulfuron

Rimsulfuron is not intended for use in residential areas, so homeowners will not be able to purchase this product to apply on lawns.

Is Rimsulfuron Safe?

Rimsulfuron is safe to use when applied according to label directions. It is recommended that when handling Rimsulfuron (or any of the other chemicals we carry) to use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) before handling or applying. Gloves, goggles, long-sleeved clothing should be the minimum standard. Please refer to the label for proper safety instructions.

What To Expect

Spraying Crop

Rimsulfuron-based products should be applied to the target area and then watered in after the application. Rimsulfuron becomes rainfast 4 hours after application. Established weeds die between one to three weeks after application and new young weeds die a few days after germinating. Some weeds are more resilient and may require a repeat application in 4 to 6 weeks.
