Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide, manufactured by United Phosphorous, is an effective aqueous formulated herbicide that controls shoreline, floating, emerged, and aquatic weeds.

With this versatile land and aquatic use product, it’s easier than ever for weeds like Japanese knotweed, water lilies, and pondweed to be removed.

Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide allows experienced and new applicators a safe and effective weed control management plan: since there are no restrictions for livestock watering, swimming, fishing, domestic use, or use of treated water for agricultural spraying following applications.

Tools Needed

To apply Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide, you will need to use a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, spray rig, injection equipment, or aerial application equipment like helicopters.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide to use on dry land sites by measuring the square footage. To do to this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage/ 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For aquatic sites, measure the size and depth of body of water. To determine acre-feet volume, measure the length, width, and depth of the waterbody, and then divide by 43,560 (length x width x depth / 43,560 = acre-feet). For foliar spot treatments in aquatic sites, use 6.4 oz. of Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide per 1 gallon of water. For foliar broadcast applications in aquatic sites, apply 1 gallon of product per acre. Refer to the label for specific application sites. Do not make more than 2 applications per year for aquatic areas.
  • Step 2: Fill the sprayer with half the amount of water, add the measured amount of Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide, and pour in the remaining amount of water. Lastly, add any additional surfactants or methylated seed oils to the mixture. Agitate the sprayer tank until the solution is well-mixed.
  • Step 3: Spray Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide to the top and bottom of weed leaves that are above water or near water sites until the point of wet, but not to the point of runoff. For weeds below the water surface apply the product to the top layer of the water or inject below the surface. Wait until 14 days have passed before making a second application.

Where to Use

Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide can be used in and around aquatic sites and terrestrial noncrop areas, industrial sites and rights-of-way. This product may also be used for the establishment and maintenance of wildlife openings; also for use on sites listed above that may be grazed or cut for hay.

Aquatic sites which can be treated include estuarine and marine sites, ponds, lakes, reservoirs, wetlands, marshes, swamps, bayous, arroyos, ditches, canals, streams, rivers, creeks, and other slow-moving or quiescent bodies of water.

For terrestrial and riparian vegetation control, apply this product in industrial noncropland sites (including utility plant sites, tank farms, pumping installations, storage areas, fence rows, and ditch banks), railroad, utility and highway rights of way.

When to Use

Apply Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide when weeds are actively growing and present in water and terrestial land sites. Do not make applications when rainfall is expected for the next 48 hours after application.

Safety Information

Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Special Considerations

Keith's Pro Tips“Effects on susceptible plants can range from control to growth regulation depending on treatment site characteristics, exposure time, and application rate. Susceptible plant species may exhibit herbicide stress or reduced growth during active treatment phases. Whole lake applications with lower rates may provide plant growth regulation or greater selectivity while higher rates will generally provide broader activity.”
Product DrawbacksNon-sensitive hardwood species may exhibit varying degrees of leaf discoloration and temporary injury with Top Deck Aquatic Herbicide.
