SFM 75 Herbicide by Alligare is a pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicide designed to control grassy and broadleaf weeds in various sites. It contains the active ingredient Sulfemeteron and is especially useful as a bare ground herbicide when no plant life is desired in an area. The product comes in water-dispersible granules that can easily dissolve in water and be used as a spray.

Tools Needed

Spraying Rig in Truck for SFM 75

To use SFM 75 Sulfemeteron Herbicide you will need to mix the product into a sprayer of your choosing such as a backpack sprayer or professional spraying rig for large applications. You could also use a hand-pump sprayer for spot treatments.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much SFM 75 you will need for the application by calculating the square footage or acreage of the area you wish to treat. To do this, measure the area length and width (in feet) and multiply the two values (length x width = square footage). To get acreage, take the square footage value and divide by 43,560 (square footage /43,560 = acreage). Application on non-crop sites vary between 0.75. oz to 6 oz. per acre in 10 to 40 gallons of water. Specific rates depend on the weed being treated and the type of application site.
  • Step 2: Fill your sprayer tank with half the required amount of water and then add the appropriate amount of SFM 75 based on your calculations. Add the remaining half of water and then agitate the sprayer until the solution is well-mixed.
  • Step 3: Spray the target weed, making sure to get even coverage via fan spray setting.
  • Step 4: Check back after 2 weeks and reapply if necessary to get complete control.

Where to Use

Use SFM 75 Herbicide on non-crop sites such as highway, railroad and utility rights-of-way, roadsides and median strips, airports, sewage disposal areas; Uncultivated Agricultural Non-crop Areas including but not limited to farmyards, fuel storage areas, tank farms, fence rows, areas enrolled in Conservation Reserve Programs (CRP), soil bank land, barrier strips; and Outdoor Industrial Sites including but not limited to lumberyards, fuel, petroleum and chemical tank farms, pipelines, pumping installations, storage areas, and utility, refinery and industrial facilities.

When to Use

For pre-emergent control, use SFM 75 Herbicide before or during the early stages of weed growth and before weeds develop an established root system. For best post-emergent results, apply Alligare SFM 75 to young, actively growing weeds. Check the label to see if your target weed can be controlled by SFM 75. Spraying works best when the soil is moist and weeds are actively growing.

Safety Information

SFM 75 is safe to use when applied according to label directions. Please make sure to wear the proper PPE before application (gloves, goggles, face mask). Keep people and pets off of treated areas until the product has completely dried.

Special Considerations

Use SFM 75 at a higher rate for hard-to-control weeds and also for a more long term control of target weeds. Do not apply more than 8 ounces per acre per year.

Questions and Answers
  1. Q:Which product would you recommend for complete vegetation removal along the edge of a driveway, road and fences. St Augustine and Bermuda grasses included. We are looking to take these areas down to the soil and keep it that way
    4/20/17
A:This would be a perfect control product, the SFM 75 as this is mainly what it is used for roadside long term control. It will kill broadleaf weeds and have a pre-emergent to stop any new germination. If you need to control the grass, ti might be best to remove it completely.
