One of the products that we offer in our store is Quicksilver Herbicide, a broad-spectrum broadleaf post-emergent weed herbicide that can also treat silvery thread moss that might develop in turfs and golf courses.

Developed by FMC Corporation, an American chemical manufacturing company headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, you can expect the same professional grade quality that pesticide and lawn care professionals’ use on a day-to-day basis.

Its active ingredient of 21% Carfentrazone-ethyl, which is an aryl triazolinone herbicide, works by disrupting the chlorophyll synthesis in plants, which all plants need to survive.

Its active ingredient also produces metabolic byproducts that disrupts the plant cell membranes and ultimately injures the plant and causes it to die.

Which works great on moss, where some systematic herbicides fall short on.

In fact, researchers at North Carolina State University discovered that this herbicide controlled 90% of moss in just two applications.

Its fast acting formula penetrates into the plants’ cells and injury activity may be observed in about 24 hours or less.

You can expect complete death and total desiccation of the weeds and moss in about 7 to 14 days.

This product is also great because it has little to no residual activity in the soil and is a selective herbicide which means that it will not disrupts the naturally beneficial or ornamental vegetation in your garden or lawn.

In a recent evaluation by 50 golf courses in North Carolina that used this product, none of the golf courses reported phytotoxicity to their turfs, which is damage to plants sensitive to chemicals.

It can also be mixed with other herbicides to duplicate its effect and is most effective in actively growing winter and summer annual seedlings.

This product is a moderate broad-spectrum herbicide, which targets more than 30 species of weeds and is especially effective against silvery thread moss (Bryum argenteum) a common enemy of golf courses.

Some of the species include Annual sowthistle, Black medic, Carpetweed, Catchweed Bedstraw, Coast fiddleneck, Common dayflower, Common mallow, Corn speedwell, Field violet, Hairy beggarticks, Wild lettuce, wild mustard, London rocket, Henbit, Hemp sesbania, Kochia, Ivyleaf speedwell, Ladysthumb, Pigweed, Prostrate knotweed, wild buckwheat, Persian Speedwell, among others.

This product is rain-fast in about one hour after application.

It comes in an easy-to-use 8-ounce tip and measure bottle, that lets you measure the exact amount of product needed before you pour it, so you always know how much product to use and mix.

In this product’s case, the recommended amount varies from .021 to .154 fluid ounces of product per 1,000 square feet.

Check the label for exact measurements and recommended amounts using their rate conversion table.

A good practice to put into effect is before mixing, is to fill your sprayer halfway with water, then add the product, and pour the rest of the water to ensure proper mixing of the product has occurred.

For use as a spray treatment used in unison with a pump sprayer mix .030 fluid ounces of product into one to two gallons of water to treat 1,000 square feet.

A good technique to put into practice is to avoid side-to-side movement of the nozzle when spraying, as it is best to spray the nozzle directly with no movement close to the weeds or moss to ensure proper application.

If you believe a secondary application is needed to properly treat an area apply a secondary application two weeks after initial application, at a rate of 2 fluid ounces of product per 1,000 square feet.
