Premise Granules
Premise Granules
Premise Granules, manufactured by Bayer, is a quick and easy method of killing termites that comes in a granular formulation.
The granules have imidacloprid, a non-repellent termiticide. Just simply scatter the granules around a perimeter and soil moisture will disperse the active ingredient easily and bind to soil particles to provide immediate contact with termites.
Because it's non-repellent, it cannot be detected by termites - instead, they walk or tunnel through treated areas and carry Premise Granules back to their nest mates for a complete colony elimination.
Tools Needed
To properly apply Premise Granules, you could shake the product straight out of the container or use a hand-held spreader, shaker can, wheel-mounted spreader, or broadcast spreader. We recommend using the push spreader for broadcast applications and the hand spreader for small localized applications.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Premise Granules to use by calculating the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply (length X width = square footage). Apply 1.8 lbs. of Premise Granules per 1,000 sq. ft. For perimeter treatments create bands 3 to 10 feet wide around and adjacent to structure foundation in commercial and residental areas. Spot treatments in soil incorporations will use 1.6 lbs. of product per linear foot of trench. Do not apply more than 80 lbs. of product per acre per year.
- Step 2: Load the appropriate amount of Premise Granules in your selected spreader or if doing a perimeter treatment, shake the product granules out of the container all around the structure.
- Step 3: To perform spot treatments for soil incorporation to eliminate termites in soil around commercial and residential structures or adjacent to other wooden structures you will need to dig a narrow trench (about 6 inches in width and in depth), while putting dugged up soil aside. Once trench has been throughly dugged you will then mix the appropriate amount of Premise Granules with the digged up soil then refill the trench. For other areas such as around plumbing, bath traps, utility services or wells/cisterns, and around poles or posts, fencing and decking materials, landscape timbers, and other similar non-structural wood-to-soil contacts apply 1.3 lbs. of product per sq. ft. of surface.
- Step 4: When using a hand or broadcast spreader, walk with a steady pace to disperse granules evenly. Water treated areas, but not to the point of run-off to move the products active ingredient through the turf and soil to reach termites.
Where to Use
Premise Granules are made to be used in and around bare soils, landscape areas, and turfgrass surrounding residential and commercial structures, wooden structures, and around plumbing, bath traps, utility services or wells/cisterns, and around poles or posts, fencing and decking materials, landscape timbers, and similar non-structural wood-to-soil contacts.
When to Use
Apply Premise Granules when you want to address a termite infestation. This is usually indicated by spotting termite wood damage. Use Premise Granules when turfgrass and soil is dry and not containing puddles of water or saturated.
Safety Information
Premise Granules is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when making applications.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Avoid contamination of public and private water supplies.
Special Considerations
Do not plant for the purpose of consumption, edible plants into the treated areas of soil.
1 level cup is approximately 8.5 oz. of Premise Granules.

Q:I need to put this around my tress my dogs are also on the grass by these trees will this hurt my dogs???7/7/16A:The premise granules should be applied then watered in to activate the chemical, allow to dry. Once dry it is safe to move around the area. Perimeter Applications: This product can be used as a perimeter band application 3 to 10 feet wide around and adjacent to the structure foundation in commercial and resi- dential areas. To kill subterranean termites foraging near commercial and residential structures, apply this product at a rate of 1.8 lb. (29 oz.) per 1,000 sq. ft. Irrigation of treated areas (not to the point of run-off) will move the active ingredient through the thatch layer in turf, through ground covering and into the underlying soil where termites forage. Apply this product uniformly over the area being treated with standard granular appli- cation equipment; including hand-held spreaders or shaker cans, and wheel-mounted spreaders.
