Poast Herbicide
Poast Herbicide
Poast Herbicide, manufactured by BASF, is a broad-spectrum post-emergent herbicide that eliminates annual and perennial grass weeds in specific crops, nonagricultural land, and other terrains.
This emulsifiable concentrate quickly enters weeds like crabgrass and foxtail through the leaves, then moves throughout the unwanted plant. With its active ingredient sethoxydim 18.0%, this product will stop the plants ability to divide cells leading to stunt of weed growth then eventual death.
Poast Herbicide provides fast and dependable control of grassy weeds within 3 weeks of treatment and allows a flexible harvest rate for listed crops. After one hour of application this product becomes rainfast.
Tools Needed
To apply Poast Herbicide, you will need a knapsack sprayer or spray rig. This product may be mixed with crop oil concentrate (COC) or methylated/modified seed oil (MSO).
Do not use selective application equipment such as recirculating sprayers, wiper applicators, or shielded applicators. Nor apply with any type of irrigation equipment.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Poast Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For spot treatments, use 1.9 fl. oz. of Poast Herbicide with 1.3 fl. oz. COC or MSO in 1 gallon of water. To treat weeds in clover, apply 2.5 pints of product in 20 gallons of water per acre. For conservation reserve lands, use 2.5 pints of product in 20 gallons of water per acre. For specific application rates refer to the product label.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer with half the amount of water, add measured amount of Poast Herbicide, then pour in the remaining half of water. Close the sprayer and agitate until well-mixed. For spray rigs, simply spray to mix the product solution.
- Step 3: Spray the mixed Poast Herbicide solution at least 4 feet above the ground or crop canopy until wet, but not to the point of runoff. A minimum of 14 days is required between sequential applications of this product.
Where to Use
Poast Herbicide may be applied to alfalfa, birdsfoot trefoil, sainfoin (dry and undried), apricot (bearing), globe artichoke, asparagus, avocado (nonbearing), beans (dry and succulent), beet (garden/table), sugar beet, blueberry, borage, brassica vegetables, buckwheat, bulb vegetables, caneberries, carrot, cherry, sweet and tart (bearing and nonbearing), citrus, clover, conservation reserve land (CRP), field corn, cotton, cranberry, crops grown for seed, cucurbit vegetables, date (nonbearing), dill, fig (nonbearing), fine fescue grown for turfgrass seed, flax, fruiting vegetables (excluding tomato), grape, and head-type and petiole-type vegetables.
When to Use
Apply Poast Herbicide when weeds are young and actively growing, but spray when rainfall is not expected an hour after application. Treat crops as stated on the product label.
Do not apply this product to grass weeds or crops under stress because of lack of moisture, hail damage, flooding, herbicide injury, mechanical injury, or widely fluctuating temperatures.
Safety Information
Poast Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Do not enter or allow other people or pets to enter treated areas until sprays have dried.
Special Considerations
Reduced grass weed control, or crop injury may result from mixing Poast Herbicide with other pesticides (fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, or miticides), additives, or fertilizers not recommended on this label.
