Oryzalin 4 Pre-Emergent Herbicide
Oryzalin 4 Pre-Emergent Herbicide is a selective pre-emergent herbicide that controls annual grasses and broadleaf weeds on ornamentals, industrial sites, lawns, and fields. It can provide continuous weed control for up to eight months.
Oryzalin 4 Pre-Emergent Herbicide, manufactured by CSI, is a professional-grade pre-emergent that prevents weeds in ornamental plantings, lawns, and more.
The active ingredient is oryzalin, which eliminates the seedlings of unwanted annual grasses and broadleaf weeds to prevent their growth. It is ideal for use on ornamental flower beds or around various types of trees and bushes.
Oryzalin 4 Pre-Emergent Herbicide provides 2 to 8 months of continuous control, keeping targeted plants from emerging and taking over. It can be mixed with label-approved post-emergent herbicides for complete control.
Tools Needed
This product can be applied with a hose-end sprayer, a backpack sprayer, a handheld pump sprayer, or a skid sprayer. If targeted annual grasses or broadleaf weeds have already grown, a garden tool to remove the weeds is needed.
How to Use
- Step 1: To figure out how much Oryzalin 4 you need, you will need to determine the treatment area square footage. To do this, measure the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). Oryzalin treatments should be done at a rate of 1.5 to 3 oz. per 1,000 square feet in a gallon of water, depending on your desired length of control. We recommend using 3 fl. oz. per 1,000 for 4 to 8-month control. If you have a 2,000-square-foot area to be treated, you would need 6 fl. oz. of Oryzalin 4 mixed with 2 gallons of water.
- Step 2: In a sprayer of your choice, add half the amount of water to the spray tank and then add the appropriate rate of Oryzalin 4 based on your calculations. Fill the tank the rest of the way with water and shake the spray tank to mix well.
- Step 3: Spray the desired areas to wet them and follow up with watering them with a minimum of 1/2 inch of water within 21 days of the initial application.
Where to Use
Oryzalin 4 can be used on ornamental flower beds or flower pots to control unwanted broadleaf weeds. It is ideal for commercial and residential landscaping with warm-season turfs, such as bahiagrass, Bermuda grass, buffalograss, centipede grass, St. Augustine Grass, and zoysiagrass. It can also be used around various trees, shrubs, ground covers or perennials, flowers, non-bearing fruit and nut trees, non-bearing vineyards, and more.
Do not use around a nursery, forest, or Christmas trees, seedling beds, cutting beds, or transplant beds. Do not apply Oryzalin 4 to pastures used for grazing, and do not feed treated hay to livestock.
When to Use
This product is best applied before unwanted annual grasses or broadleaf weeds have grown. Remove any unwanted grasses or weeds before applying Oryzalin 4.
Safety Information
Oryzalin 4 is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.
Keep people and pets out of treated areas for 24 hours after application.
Special Considerations
Remove or till up all unwanted weeds that have sprouted or fully grown. Oryzalin 4 will not kill post-emergent weeds. It is safe to use around established trees, flowers, plants, and other vegetation listed on the product label. Before applying, read the label to ensure the non-targeted vegetation is on this list.

Keith's Pro Tips | "Before applying pre-emergent herbicides, use a soil thermometer to make sure applications are made before the soil reaches 55 degrees. For a more even application and for more flexibility with concentration, we recommend using a liquid herbicide." |
Product Drawbacks | Oryzalin 4 is only effective before the weeds have emerged from the ground. It will not kill well established, grown weeds. For lawns and turf grasses where targeted weeds have begun to grow, we suggest using a post-emergent, selective herbicide like TopS |
