Octane 2% SC Herbicide is manufactured by the SePro Corporation and is a powerful fast-acting suspended concentrate that is used to control weeds on ornamentals and turf. Octane 2% SC works fast as you'll see dramatic results within 24-48 hours of application.

Octane is rainfast in only one hour so any inclement weather after application will not minimize the effectiveness of Octane. A little goes a long way with Octane to remove weeds, saving you money.

Tools Needed

Octane 2% SC can be applied using a hand-held, hose-end or backpack sprayer for general applications. For large volume applications, you will need a professional spray rig.

How to Use

Pump Sprayer application of Octane

  • Step 1: Determine the square footage of the treatment area in order to calculate how much Octane 2% SC you will need. You can do this by multiplying the length and width of the target area (length x width = square footage). For spot treatments using a pump sprayer, 0.5 to 1 fl. oz. of Octane 2% in 2 to 4 gallons of water can treat 500 to 1,000 sq. ft. For example, if your treatment area measures 3,000 sq. ft., you will need to mix 3 fl. oz. in 12 gallons of water.
  • Step 2: Fill your selected sprayer with a 3/4 gallon of water. Add the appropriate amount of Octane 2% SC to the spray tank based on your calculations and the rate needed to treat your target weed. Fill the sprayer the rest of the way with water and mix well by shaking the spray tank and you're ready to apply.
  • Step 3: Apply the product selectively to target plants. Put the sprayer in a fan spray setting for even coverage. Check back in two weeks and reapply if necessary until the weed has died.

Where to Use

Octane 2% is for use in nurseries and ornamental plantings, Christmas trees, sod farms, and on established cool and warm-season ornamental turf.

When to Use

Apply Octane 2% SC when you have weed problems around your ornamentals, particularly in the early spring. Apply on a calm day where wind speeds are low to minimize the chances of drift. Avoid applications when warm-season turfgrasses are transitioning into or out of dormancy.

Safety Information

Octane 2% SC is safe to use when applied according to label directions. Be sure to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying. Keep the product safely out of reach of children or pets and after applying everyone should be kept off the treated area until it is dry.

Special Considerations

Tank-mixing Octane with other broadleaf herbicides may be needed for control of larger winter and summer annual weeds.

Questions and Answers
  1. Q:Why does it say this for Octane? "Avoid applications when warm-season turfgrasses are transitioning into or out of dormancy."
    3/13/24
A:Basically, Octane 2% must be used on warm-seasoned turf when it is actively growing. Applications when warm-seasoned turf is fixing to go into or coming out of dormancy (which is usually when the cooler weather is transiting to warmer weather in your region) may result in injury to it.
