Monterey Florel PGR
Monterey Florel PGR is a powerful plant growth regulator that reduces messy fruit drop and prevents unwanted fruit growth on ornamental trees and shrubs.
10/09/25
Monterey Florel PGR, manufactured by Monterey, is an effective plant growth regulator concentrate that manages a wide variety of ornamental plants in a convenient, effective manner.
One of the primary uses of this product is to prevent messy fruit drop, which can create unsightly conditions in yards, driveways, patios, and other spaces. By inhibiting the plant’s ability to produce fruits or flowers, Monterey Florel PGR reduces maintenance and cleanup efforts.
The active ingredient, ethephon, is a plant hormone that promotes ethylene production. Ethylene plays a key role in regulating plant growth, including suppressing flowering and fruiting, controlling ripening, and improving overall plant management.
Monterey Florel PGR is a cost-effective plant care product that easily manipulates the ornamental plant's hormone balance, leading to better plant care. By reducing excessive fruiting, the plant can redirect energy toward root development, foliage growth, and overall health.
Tools Needed
It can be applied with a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, hose-end sprayer, or spray rig.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Monterey Florel PGR to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together. To find acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For most ornamental fruit species to stop undesirable fruit growth, mix 1 quart of Monterey Florel PGR in 10 gallons of water. For undesirable fruit elimination on sensitive plant species such as carob, use 1/2 quart of product in 10 gallons of water. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Fill the tank with half the amount of water, add the measured amount of product, then pour in the remaining half of the water. Agitate the tank well for the solution to completely dissolve.
- Step 3: Thoroughly wet the blooms and buds, but not to the point of runoff.
Where to Use
Monterey Florel PGR can be used for ornamental trees, shrubs, ornamental conifers, decidous trees, Cantaloupe, Cucumber, pumpkin and squash hybrid seed, ornamental bromeliads, potted daffodils, and potted hyacinths.
It may also be used for greenhouse, shadehouse, and field grown floricultural crops.
When to Use
The activity of this product is linked to plant growth activity and is therefore slower acting when temperatures are low (60 degrees Fahrenheit) or very high (95 degrees Fahrenheit).
Trees or shrubs should not be under stress when treated such as from drought, insects or diseases. Apply when rain is not expected for 24 hours after application.
Safety Information
Monterey Florel PGR is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Keep people and pets out of the treatment area for 2 days after application. In areas where average rainfall is less than 25 inches per year keep people and pets out for 72 hours.
Special Considerations
Applications should be made at the mid to full bloom stage, prior to fruit set in spray volumes sufficient to wet, but not to runoff.
Failure to wet blooms thoroughly will cause incomplete fruit elimination. Spraying too much (until runoff) may cause some defoliation or other plant injury. Sprays applied too early or too late will be less effective and result in incomplete fruit elimination.
