Hyvar X-L Herbicide, manufactured by Bayer Environmental Science, is a powerful, non-selective herbicide that is intended to be used to eliminate stubborn weeds and grasses from areas where they are unwanted.

This flowable liquid delivers both pre-emergent and early post-emergent control of tough weeds and undesirable grasses. This product is water soluble, allowing it to be absorbed through the roots of the plants providing efficient control of hard to kill plants, like weeds and woody plants.

Hyvar X-L Herbicide is a particularly useful systemic herbicide against many broadleaf and grassy weeds like dandelions. With a low-use rate, and versatility in application as either diluted or undiluted makes this an economic herbicide.

Tools Needed:

To use Hyvar X-L for small scale usage, we recommend using a pump sprayer, a backpack sprayer, or a hose end sprayer. For large scale you can apply this product using a spray rig or boom sprayer.

How To Use:

  • Step 1: Determine how much Hyvar X-L you need by calculating the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, you will need to measure and multiply the length times the width of the area (length x width = square footage). To get acreage, you will need to take the square footage and divide by 43,560. For broadcast applications Hyvar should be applied at a rate or 3/4 of a gallon to 12 gallons per acre depending on the weed that needs to be controlled in at least 25 gallons of water.
  • Step 2: Fill your sprayer halfway with water, then measure out the required amount of Hyvar based on the weed being controlled and add it to the tank. Fill the tank with the remaining amount of water and thoroughly agitate the sprayer and you're ready to apply.
  • Step 3: Treat the target areas with the mixture. This product needs to be activated by rainfall or water after application.
  • Step 4: Follow label instructions regarding re-application, as the rates of application will vary depending on the grass type and the annual rainfall.

Where to Use:

Hyvar X-L Herbicide should be applied in areas for general weed control where plants are not desired on: uncultivated non-agricultural areas (such as, airports, highway, railroad and utility rights-of-way, sewage disposal areas); uncultivated agricultural areas (non-crop producing, which includes: farmyards, fuel storage areas, fence rows, barrier strips); industrial sites (outdoor, such as, lumberyards, pipeline and tank farms such as highways, parking lots, industrial buildings, and more. This product can also be used in special areas such as pond linings, or under concrete and highway shoulders.

When to Use:

Hyvar X-L Herbicide can be used either as a pre-emergence or early post-emergence spray when weeds are actively germinating or growing, or before the plants or weeds have grown. The application rates can vary so it is important to read the label for proper instruction for your specific application.

Safety Information:

Hyvar X-L Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Take every precaution necessary to reduce drift from the wind, otherwise non-target plants and trees and plants could be damaged from this product.

Special Considerations:

Hyvar X-L Herbicide is versatile and simple to use, but it will damage or harm any plant that comes into contact with it. It is important to carefully plan and apply this product in such a way that other non-target plants are not exposed. This product does not need to be diluted with water, but it always needs to be watered in after application so that it can enter the roots of the plants.

Used the product for years. Always had a great take down with it. Usually takes a good 2 weeks before weeds start to change color and form. One application helps control for most of summer.

  9. Q:What ratio to kill honey sickle and ivy?
    5/25/18
A:Apply Hyvar® X-L Herbicide at the rates indicated in the table below. Use the lower rates for short-term control or in areas with less than 20 inches of annual rainfall. Use the higher rates for longer-term control or in areas with greater than 20 inches of annual rainfall. Annuals—3/4 to 3 gallons per acre Application rates may vary with soil texture and organic matter content. Use the lower rates on coarse textured soils, such as loamy sand and sandy loam. Use an intermediate rate on medium textured soils, such as loam, silt loam, silt, clay loam, and sandy clay loam and the higher rates on fine textured soils, such as silty clay loam, clay loam, sandy clay, silty clay, and clay. For soils low in organic matter or carbon use the lower rates and for soils with higher levels of organic matter or carbon use the higher rates. Lower rates may be used in areas where it is desirable to maintain control of weeds that have been controlled with previous applications of residual herbicides. Use the higher rate as an initial treatment in areas where weeds have not been controlled with previous herbicide applications or in areas where perennial weed pests have become established.
