Hi-Yield 38-Plus
Hi-Yield 38-Plus is a highly concentrated permethrin insecticide that controls wood-infesting, lawn, and home-invading insects outdoors.
10/15/25
Hi-Yield 38-Plus, manufactured by VPG Inc., contains 38% permethrin as its active ingredient. Due to this high concentration, Hi-Yield 38-Plus can only be used outside residential buildings.
This product will work well to fight insects on the perimeter of your residence, ornamental plants, lawns, trees, and landscaped areas. Another positive effect of this product is that it is non-staining on most home sidings, depending on their age and cleanliness before application.
When applied to your turf, the active ingredient permethrin will immediately affect the insect's nervous system, causing death or paralysis. Because of its broad spectrum label from turf, termite, and ornamental, it will control a wide variety of insects from ants, including their mounds, types of beetles, ticks, and many other listed insects.
Tools Needed
You will need a handheld, backpack, or hose-end sprayer to treat a large area.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Hi-Yield 38-Plus to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). The mix rates will vary depending on what you are treating for, but typically, you will use between 0.4 fl. oz. to 0.8 fl. oz. of Hi-Yield 38-Plus per 1,000 sq. ft.
- Step 2: Mix and fill your sprayer halfway with water, pour in your measured amount of product based on your treatment area, and then fill your sprayer the rest of the way with water. Shake your sprayer to ensure an even mix.
- Step 3: To treat the perimeter of your residential building, apply a 6 to 8 ft. wide band of soil around the home's perimeter, then treat the foundation wall to a height of 2 to 3 ft. Use a spray volume, preferably with a hose-end sprayer, between 2 to 10 gallons of product with 0.5% emulsion per 1,000 sq. ft. To treat wood-destroying pests, 0.5% emulsion is used to fill in voids and damage the spaces between the wood frames and structures of the foundation. For most broadcast applications, you will want a coarse spray application that evenly covers plant surfaces, spraying to wet but not run-off. For mound drench treatments, use a handheld sprayer to quickly apply a 4-foot diameter circle around the mound until it is thoroughly wet.
Where to Use
Hi-Yield 38-Plus is only for use on the exterior or perimeter of your home on ornamental plants, lawns, trees, turf, shrubs, and vines in landscaped areas. This product can also be applied to lawns near or around private residences such as townhouses, duplexes, condominiums, house trailers, carports, garages, fence lines, storage sheds, barns, and other residential areas.
When to Use
Apply early in the morning or late evening or when insect activity begins on your residential lawn. As long as the day is not hot, you can apply between early spring and mid-summer.
Apply on calm days when winds are not blowing, and rain is not predicted for 24 hours to increase Hi-Yield 38-Plus effectiveness.
Safety Information
Hi-Yield 38-Plus is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying or mixing the product.
Keep children and pets away from the treated area until 48 hours after application.
Do not use Hi-Yield 38-Plus on plants meant for consumption or plant seeds.
Special Considerations
Hi-Yield 38-Plus is not preventative and will only be effective when insects appear outside your residential foliage. This product is not for indoor use and may only be used outside of your home; this does not include crawl spaces.
This product does not stain most home siding (depending on its age and cleanliness). It will work as a residual spray on the sidewalk, outside of the home, windows, and other outside surfaces to keep home-invading insects away. Before applying, test in an area not easily seen and recheck in a couple of hours to see if the home has stained.
