Gemini Granular Herbicide, manufactured by ICL Specialty Fertilizer, is a high performance granular pre-emergent herbicide formulated with R-50 Optimizer to control numerous weeds with less active ingredient used.

Contains prodiamine 0.40% and isoxaben 0.25%, which works to stop weeds by stopping cell division and cell wall development needed for new weed growth. Adds safe weed control in sites such as field nursery stock with the patented R-50 component resulting in increased applications per year and reduced amount of ingredients exposed to sites per acre.

Gemini Granular Herbicide is a long-duration pre-emergent herbicide that safely and effectively controls weeds and results in low phytotoxicity.

Tools Needed

To apply Gemini Granular Herbicide, you will need to use either a push spreader or broadcast spreader.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Gemini Granular Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). Treatment of turfgrass or ornamental species (non-food, ornamental plant species) not listed on the label, apply 2.3 or 4.6 lbs. of Gemini Granular Herbicide per 1,000 sq. ft. To treat container, field grown, and landscape ornamental plantings and Christmas trees farms, use 37 to 75 oz. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. or 100 to 200 lbs. of product per acre. For non-crop areas, apply 100 to 200 lbs. of product per acre. Refer to the label for specific rate for specific application sites or ornamental species.
  • Step 2: Calibrate your spreader to the right setting for application and load the measured amount of Gemini Granular Herbicide into the spreader.
  • Step 3: Depending on the treatment area, spread the Gemini Granular Herbicide over the top of soil (including mulch, gravel, wood chips, or other permeable base) or directly on soil as a spot treatment. After application, immediately water the granules in with 0.5 inches of irrigation or rainfall within 14 days after application. Be sure to wash off any granules that may have landed on plant surfaces to avoid plant injury.

Where to Use

Gemini Granular Herbicide can be used on listed grass and broadleaf weeds or the soil in the following areas: Container, field-grown, and landscape ornamentals. Non-crop areas including managed rights-of-way for transportation systems and utilities (such as roadways, roadsides, railways, and equipment yards). Non-crop facilities including substations, tank farms, pumping stations, parking and storage areas. Non-grazed fence rows and Christmas tree farms. It may also be used in shadehouses and uncovered polyhouses.

Do not apply to golf course putting greens and tees.

When to Use

Apply Gemini Granular Herbicide when plants are not under stress and when rainfall is expected to occur within 24 hours of application if you are planning on using this method to water in granules instead of using a water hose. If you do water the product in yourself, do not apply when rainfall is expected to occur within 24 hours.

This product may be applied as a broadcast or over the top application to newly-transplanted and established ornamentals.

Safety Information

Gemini Granular Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying this product.

Do not apply this product to plants that will be consumed for food use.

Do not graze or feed livestock forage cut from areas treated with this product.

Keep people and pets out of treated areas until 24 hours have passed after application.

Special Considerations

The state of Arizona has not approved Gemini Granular Herbicide for use on agricultural commodities. If grown for commercial production, use on the following sites/crops is prohibited: container grown field ornamentals, field-grown ornamentals, ornamental bulbs, and Christmas tree/conifer plantations.

Applications of this product over the top of plants with newly forming buds may cause injury. Possible plant injury may be avoided by application as a direct application to the soil surface beneath ornamental plants.

A period of 1 year will need to pass after applying this product before planting ornamentals.

Keith's Pro Tips"In the spring when buds are rapidly growing and expanding, over-the-top application of Gemini Granular Herbicide can injure new growth of desirable plants, however, these effects are temporary. To reduce the possibility of injury at this time, wait to apply this product over the top of newly emerged vegetation until it has hardened off, unless your experience indicates that the ornamental plant will not be injured by the over-the-top application. After application, immediately apply overhead irrigation to the foliage to wash this product from plant surfaces onto soil."
Product DrawbacksSome cultivars of listed plants may be sensitive to Gemini Granular Herbicide. This product is toxic to plants and may adversely impact the forage and habitat of non-target organisms, including pollinators, in areas adjacent to the treated site.
