Clipper SC Aquatic Herbicide
Clipper SC Aquatic Herbicide is a fast and selective aquatic herbicide that controls a broad-spectrum of tough invasive and nuisance aquatic weeds in ponds, lakes, and irrigation canals.
04/21/26
Clipper SC Aquatic Herbicide, manufactured by Nufarm, is a convenient aquatic herbicide that provides fast, selective control of tough invasive and nuisance plants like duckweed, watermeal, Eurasian watermilfoil, and more in various aquatic environments.
This contact herbicide contains flumioxazin, which targets and disrupts chlorophyll formation in aquatic weeds, leading to rapid browning and death. It’s non-systemic, meaning it doesn’t translocate through the plant—it kills what it touches. And for floating and submerged weeds that tend to resist systemic herbicides? That’s a huge win.
Clipper SC Aquatic Herbicide is a rapid-action contact herbicide that controls a wide range of floating, emergent, and submerged aquatic weeds within a couple of days. Its quick dissipation from the water column, ease of mixing, and favorable environmental profile make it a powerful and efficient choice for aquatic weed management.
Tools Needed
Apply with a backpack sprayer, handgun sprayer, airboat, helicopter, airplane, or other application equipment that will ensure thorough coverage of target plant foliage.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine the surface acre of your water site by measuring the length and width in feet, multiply them (length X width = square footage). Next, divide them by 43,560 to get the surface acres (square footage / 43,560 = surface acre). For surface applications, apply 6 to 12 oz. of Clipper SC Aquatic Herbicide per 30 gallons of water per acre. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Fill the spray tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of product, and then pour in the remaining half of the water. Close the tank lid and shake until well-mixed.
- Step 3: This product is a contact herbicide that quickly degrades in the water column so plants that do not initially come in contact with the herbicide will not be controlled. For this reason, be sure to thoroughly spray the weeds. In high-density weed populations only treat 1/2 the water body at one time. Do not retreat the same section of water within 28 days of application, except in areas with dense weed vegetation. In these areas, treat the remaining weeds within 10 to 14 days.
Where to Use
Clipper SC Aquatic Herbicide may be applied to the following quiescent or slow-moving bodies of water such as bayous, canals, drainage ditches, lakes, marshes, ponds (including golf course ponds), and reservoirs.
When to Use
It is most effective when applied to young, actively growing weeds in water with a pH of less than 8.5.
Safety Information
Clipper SC Aquatic Herbicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
There is no post-application holding restriction against use of treated water for drinking or recreational purposes (e.g. swimming, fishing).
Special Considerations
Treated water may not be used for irrigation purposes on food crops until at least five days after application.

| Keith's Pro Tip | "The key to weed prevention is managing the factors that encourage their growth—namely nutrients, sunlight, and stagnant water. Start by limiting nutrient runoff from fertilizers, manure, and lawn clippings, as excess nitrogen and phosphorus feed unwanted aquatic plants and algae. Installing or maintaining a vegetative buffer zone (tall grass or native plants) around the pond can help filter runoff before it enters the water." |
