Citation Insecticide
Citation Insecticide
Citation Insecticide, manufactured by Syngenta, is an impressive granule insect growth regulator that effectively and economically controls pests in plants and vegetables grown for commercial use.
Provides excellent control of pests such as fungus gnats and shore flies without harming beneficial insect predators. These water soluble packets have a unique mode of action that disrupts the normal larval growth development by interfering with the formation and release of essential insect molting hormones. Pests that come into contact with this product cannot grow into the next phase of life resulting in eventual death and stopping of plant damages.
Citation Insecticide is tough enough to take care of destructive insects like dipterous leafminers, but safe enough for high-value crops without being phytotoxic when used at labeled rates.
Tools Needed
To apply Citation Insecticide, you will need to use either a handheld pump sprayer or overhead irrigation equipment. Overhead irrigation systems include micro-sprinklers, mist-type irrigation (such as fog systems) and motorized booms utilizing injectors.
Do not apply this product through any other type of irrigation system.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Citation Insecticide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For control of Dipterous leafminers, apply 2.66 oz. of Citation Insecticide in 100 gallons of water per acre. For the control of fungus gnats and shore flies, apply 2.66 oz. of product in 100 gallons of water. For ornamental crops grown or vegetable transplants outdoors, do not exceed 15.96 oz. of product per acre per year. For ornamental crops or vegetable transplants grown indoors, do not exceed 15.96 oz. of product per acre per crop.
- Step 2: Citation Insecticide are meant to dissolve in water. To mix, simply fill the spray tank or separate mixing container with half the amount of needed water. Add the proper amount of unopened Citation Insecticide water soluble packets and allow 5 minutes or longer to pass for it dissolve in water. Do not add other allowed products or complete filling the tank until the bags have fully dissolved and pesticide is thoroughly mixed. Once the water soluble packets have fully dissolved and any other products have been added to the tank, resume filling the tank with the remaining half of water to the desired level, close the tank lid, and resume agitation.
- Step 3: Apply the mixed Citation Insecticide as a foliar spray or soil drench to all plant surfaces where insect pests may breed to the point of runoff. This includes the potting media surfaces, bench tops, undersides of benches, and the areas under benches that may be contaminated with potting media or algae. Do not make more than 6 applications to a single crop. For all other leafy vegetable crops, do not make more than 5 applications per crop. Repeat application, as needed, at 7-day intervals to maintain control.
Where to Use
Citation Insecticide can be used in landscape ornamentals; container-grown ornamentals; greenhouse-, lathhouse- and shadehouse-grown ornamental bedding plants and ornamental crops; and interiorscapes; and may be used only to control shore flies, in greenhouse ornamental crops and interiorscapes only. This product may also be used in vegetable transplants grown for consumer use.
When to Use
Ornamentals may be treated with Citation Insecticide when stippling first appears and vegetables can be treated when pests have been seen or after a previous infestation.
Other ornamental crops may be planted following harvest of a Citation Insecticide-treated crop. Do not rotate to any food crop for 300 days after the last application, except dried and succulent beans, Brassica leafy vegetables, bulb vegetables, cucurbit vegetables, leafy vegetables, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes. Cotton, radishes, or sweet corn may be rotated to 30 days after last application.
Safety Information
Citation Insecticide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Do not allow people or pets enter treated areas until 24 hours have passed after application.
Special Considerations
Citation Insecticide will not control adult stages of the insect pests. For control of adults, insecticides labeled for adult insect control should be used such as Avid 0.15 EC Miticide/Insecticide.

While many plant species and cultivars have been evaluated, individual species and cultivar should be evaluated for phytotoxicity prior to making applications to the entire crop. Before treating any crop not listed above, the grower should test Citation Insecticide for possible phytotoxic effects for at least 2 weeks on a small group of plants under the same conditions in which they will be grown." |
