Captain XTR
Captain XTR
Captain XTR, manufactured by SePRO Technologies, is a broad-spectrum algaecide designed to eliminate hard to control algae.
The special copper formulation infusion technology of Captain XTR makes it so the copper moves through the algae cells' defense mechanisms in order to control the algae cell from the inside out.
There is also multiple surfactants and emulsifiers in the formulation to make the product even more effective. If your water body is overrun with algae, Captain XTR is a solid option to clear your water and return back to swimming, recreational and other water activities.
Tools Needed
To use Captain XTR you will need to mix the product in a handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, professional skid sprayer, or algaecide injection equipment.
How to Use
- Step 1: First, determine how much Captain XTR you will need by calculating the surface acreage (1 acre = 43,560 sq. ft.) and the average depth of the infested area. Depending on the type of algae you are treating you may need to mix anywhere from 0.2 to 1.0 ppm or 0.6 to 3.0 gallons per acre foot in a minimum spray mix of 20 to 50 gallons per acre.
- Step 2: Now that you have determined how much Captain XTR you need to fill your sprayer tank with the Captain XTR. Captain XTR can be diluted or undiluted, whichever is most suitable to ensure uniform coverage of the treated area. For best results dilute Captain XTR in 20 to 50 gallons per acre of water.
- Step 3: Apply the Captain XTR in a manner that will ensure even distribution within the treatment area.
Where to Use
Captain XTR can be used in still or flowing aquatic sites including: golf course, ornamental, fish, irrigation and fire ponds and aquaculture including fish and shrimp; freshwater lakes, ponds, and fish hatcheries; potable water reservoirs, rivers, streams, bays and covers; and crop and non-crop irrigation and drainage systems (canals, laterals and ditches) and chemigation systems.
When to Use
Use Captain XTR ideally when algae growth first begins to appear or when target vegetation is actively growing. In heavily infested areas, a second application may be necessary. Retreat areas if algae begins to regrow or if you wish to have seasonal control.
Safety Information
Captain XTR is safe to use when applied according to the label and when given adequate time to dry. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying (gloves, long-sleeved clothing, protective eyewear, safety mask).
Special Considerations
For aquatic weed control, do not exceed a concentration of 1.0 ppm copper during any single application and wait a minimum of 14 days between retreatments. For treating agricultural ponds where fish are present, do not exceed a concentration of 0.4 ppm during any single application and wait a minimum of 10 days between treatments.

I highly recommend Captain XTR. While it costs about 18% more than Captain, it is well worth it since it lasts at least 50% longer, not to mention the time and labor savings you'll realize using this product.
