Captain Aquatic
Captain Aquatic
Captain Aquatic Algaecide, manufactured by SePRO Technologies, is a broad-spectrum algaecide made to control a wide range of filamentous, pithophora and planktonic algae in freshwater sites.
This product is made with a formulation of 9% double-chelated copper and can control algae in as quickly as 3 to 7 days allowing you to restore the look of your pond or another water body so it is fit for swimming, fishing, and other uses.
If you are looking for a fast-acting and economical option to remove algae from your freshwater pond, Captain Aquatic Algaecide should be highly considered.
Tools Needed
To use Captain Aquatic you will need to mix the product in a handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or professional skid sprayer.
How to Use
- Step 1: First, determine how much Captain Aquatic you will need by calculating the surface acreage (1 acre = 43,560 sq. ft.) and average depth of the infested area. You should only consider the area that is covered in algae and apply at a rate of 1 to 2 gallons per surface acre. For small applications, mix 32 ounces Captain with 2.5 gallons of water.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer halfway with water and then add the appropriate measured amount of Captain Aquatic. Agitate the spray tank to ensure the product is well mixed and then you are ready to apply.
- Step 3: Apply the Captain Aquatic solution to the area of your water body where the algae is, spraying only 1/4th to 1/3rd of the surface area of the pond at a time at 7 day intervals.
Where to Use
Captain Aquatic Algaecide can be used in ponds, lakes, canals, drinking water reservoirs and chemigation systems. Water treated with Captain may be used for swimming, fishing, watering livestock and for irrigating turf, fairways, putting greens, and ornamental plants immediately after treatment
When to Use
Captain works best when it is applied in the early morning hours with bright sunlight under calm conditions and when water temperature is at least 60°F. Apply at the first sign of algae growth.
Safety Information
Captain Aquatic is safe to use when applied according to the label and when given adequate time to dry. Treating all algae across the entire surface area at one time can cause oxygen depletion and result in harm to your fish, so break your treatment up into 1/3rd segments. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying (gloves, long-sleeved clothing, protective eyewear, safety mask).
Special Considerations
For severe algae infestations, limit treatment to 1/3rd of the water surface at a time when the water temperature is between 65°F and 85°F. The last 1/3rd segments of your water body should be treated at 7 day intervals. To address very heavy algae problems, consider Captain XTR as the better an extra-strength alternative to the standard Captain Aquatic product.
