Bonide Insect & Grub Control

Bonide Insect & Grub Control, manufactured by Bonide, is a ready-to-use granular insecticide that prevents and controls pests above and below turf. The active ingredient is released into the soil and remains effective for 3 months, breaking the life cycle of pests and stopping reinfestation.

It features a powerful combination of imidacloprid, which works systemically to kill pests from the inside out, and lambda-cyhalothrin, a fast-acting contact insecticide that starts killing within 24 hours. This blend targets a wide range of destructive lawn insects, including grubs, chinch bugs, sod webworms, ticks, fleas, fire ants, billbugs, and more both above and below the surface

Bonide Insect & Grub Control is an effective dual-action and season-long insecticide that manages a wide spectrum of lawn pests with minimal effort. It’s easy to use, works for months, and saves homeowners from the frustration and cost of chasing multiple pest problems with multiple products.

Tools Needed

A handheld spreader, broadcast spreader, push spreader, or rotary spreader will be needed. 

How to Use

• Step 1: Determine how much Bonide Insect & Grub Control to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For lawn applications, use 1.2 to 1.8 pounds of Bonide Insect & Grub Control per 1,000 sq. ft. For perimeter applications, apply 0.8 pounds of product per 1,000 sq. ft. To make spot treatments for ants, use 0.5 teaspoons over and around each ant hill. Do not apply more than six times per year per location at the low use rate. Do not apply more than three times per year per location at high use rate. 
• Step 2: Calibrate the spreader to the proper settings then load the correct amount of granules. 
• Step 3: Walk at a steady pace to spread the granules evenly over the lawn. Overlap slightly to avoid missed strips. To make perimeter treatments, apply a 3 to 5-foot band of granules next to the home's foundation. After application, water the granules in lightly.

Where to Use

Bonide Insect & Grub Control should be used outdoors, on lawns and as a band treatment around house foundation.  

When to Use

The best time to apply is before grubs hatch and start feeding, which is typically late spring to early summer in most regions. For surface‑feeding insects, you can apply at the first signs of activity whether that’s early summer or later in the season.

Avoid applications when rainfall is expected within 24 hours of application. 

Safety Information

Bonide Insect & Grub Control is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling and applying this product. 

Keep children and pets off the treated area until the product has been watered in and the lawn is dry.

Special Considerations

If your lawn has pest problems due to poor drainage, excess thatch, or compacted soil, using this product alone won’t fix the root cause you may need to improve lawn care practices as well.
