Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide
Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide is a powerful, fast-acting fluridone-based solution for long-term control of invasive aquatic weeds in lakes, reservoirs, ponds, and other aquatic sites.
04/10/26
Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide, manufactured by Sepro, is an effective aquatic herbicide that provides broad-spectrum, systemic control of nuisance and invasive aquatic plants, restoring the health, clarity, and usability of water resources.
This selective, systemic aquatic herbicide is formulated to take down tough aquatic weeds like hydrilla, Eurasian watermilfoil, and coontail, while leaving native plants and wildlife largely unaffected. Fluridone is a carotenoid biosynthesis inhibitor meaning it blocks the production of pigments that plants need for photosynthesis. The result? Treated plants slowly die over several weeks, allowing for gradual decomposition that minimizes oxygen depletion and damage to aquatic ecosystems.
Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide is a high-performance suspended concentrate herbicide that offers consistent results with minimal disruption to the environment. Unlike fast-acting contact herbicides, Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide breaks down plants gradually. This slow kill reduces the risk of fish kills and low oxygen events, especially in warm weather.
Tools Needed
A spray rig or aerial application equipment will be needed.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide you need by calculating the area size of your aquatic water body. To do this, you will need to calculate the pond's surface area by measuring (in feet) the water's length, width, and depth (length x width x depth = surface area square footage / 43,560 = surface acre). For 45 ppb in ponds with a water depth of 1 feet, use 3.8 fl. oz. of Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide per surface acre. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Fill the spray tank halfway with water, add the proper amount of product, then pour in the remaining half of the water. Close the tank and agitate well.
- Step 3: Spray the surface of the water evenly to treat weeds. To treat submerged weeds, you may need to use a trailing hose to get close to the weed. Split or multiple applications may be used where dilution of treated water is anticipated; however, the sum of all applications must not exceed a total of 90 ppb per annual growth cycle.
Where to Use
Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide can be used in fresh water ponds, lakes, reservoirs, potable water sources, drainage canals, and irrigation canals.
When to Use
Apply early in the season when weeds are just beginning to grow.
Safety Information
Avast SC Aquatic Herbicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Irrigation with water treated with this product may result in injury to the irrigated vegetation.
Special Considerations
For tobacco, tomatoes, peppers or other plants within the Solanaceae family and for newly seeded grasses, such as overseeded golf course greens, do not use Avast SC treated water if concentrations are greater than 5 ppb. Furthermore, when rotating crops, do not plant members of the Solanaceae family in land that has been previously irrigated with fluridone concentrations in excess of 5 ppb. It is recommended that an aquatic specialist be consulted prior to commencing irrigation of these sites.
