Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide
Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide is a highly effective algaecide that controls and prevents algae growth in ponds, lakes, reservoirs, canals, and other water bodies.
04/21/26
Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide, manufactured by Alligare, is a fast copper-based algaecide that offers a comprehensive approach to branched, filamentous, and planktonic algae species while being safe for fish and aquatic life when used correctly.
Unlike some algaecides that degrade quickly, Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide contains chelated copper, which ensures longer-lasting control. This means reduced frequency of applications, better algae prevention, and minimal risk of algae regrowth.
Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide is a trusted algaecide solution for professional water managers, homeowners, and municipalities who need effective algae control in lakes, ponds, canals, and reservoirs. With its powerful chelated copper formula, fast-acting effects, and long-lasting residual control, it stands out as one of the best aquatic algaecides on the market.
Tools Needed
Surface applications of this product must be made using a land-based sprayer (like backpack or boom sprayer) or spray boat. Weighted trailing hoses are required for subsurface applications.
How to Use
- Step 1: Measure the copper levels in the water to determine how much Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide to use. You can send a water sample to your local professional water testing laboratory for the best results. Apply 1.7 gallons of Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide per surface acre with 1 average depth of water of treatment site in feet for light to mild infestations. For severe outbreaks, use 3.4 gallons of product per surface acre with 1 average depth of water of treatment site in feet. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Dilute with water in a separate tank mixing container then add the proper amount of product. Agitate or stir until the solution is evenly mixed.
- Step 3: For surface sprays, spray the solution over the top of the water evenly. For subsurface applications, insert the hose as close as possible to algae. For any type of application method, treat no more than 1/2 of the water body at one time. Do not apply more Alligare 8% Copper than required for the treatment area, and allow at least 14 days before making application to the remaining portion of the water body.
Where to Use
Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide can be used in Fresh Water Lakes, Potable Water Reservoirs, Ponds (including Golf Course Ponds), Fish Hatcheries, Irrigation Ditches, and Other Such Slow Moving or Quiescent Bodies of Water.
When to Use
The best results are obtained when applied at the first appearance of algae and when water temperatures are above 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Safety Information
Alligare 8% Copper Algaecide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
This product is toxic to fish and other aquatic invertebrates. The risk of fish toxicity generally decreases as the hardness of the water increases.
Special Considerations
Treatment of aquatic weeds and algae can result in oxygen loss from decomposition of dead algae and weeds. This oxygen loss can cause fish and invertebrate suffocation.
Consult with the State or local agency with primary responsibility for regulating pesticides before applying to public waters, to determine if a permit is required.
