UP-Front Herbicide
UP-Front Herbicide, manufactured by Drexel, is a dual-action herbicide for preemergent and post-emergent control of certain grasses and broadleaf weeds in cotton and soybeans.
The active ingredient Metolachlor 46.4%, works by inhibiting the growth of the seeds, and formesafen 10.2% inhibits root and shoots from spreading.
UP-Front Herbicide can be used pre-plant through post-emergent applications.
Tools Needed
To use UP-Front Herbicide, you will need to mix the product in the sprayer of your choosing such as a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, or a professional spray rig for large-volume applications.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much UP-Front Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, you will need to measure the length and the width of the treatment area in feet and then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take your square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). As a pre-emergent application in soybeans, you will need 2 pints of UP-Front Herbicide mixed with 10 gallons of water per acre. For more rates and restrictions refer to the product label.
- Step 2: Fill your selected sprayer tank with half of the required amount of water and then add the measured amount of UP-Front Herbicide. Fill the sprayer the rest of the way with the remaining half of the water. Close the sprayer and shake it till the product is well mixed.
- Step 3: Spray the targeted weed with the UP-Front Herbicide mixture, making sure to get even coverage via a fan spray setting.
Where to Use
Use UP-Front Herbicide in cotton and soybean crops.
When to Use
UP-Front Herbicide can be used as a preemergent in cotton and soybeans as well as a post-emergent up until at least 90 days before harvest in soybeans and 80 days before harvest for cotton.
Safety Information
UP-Front Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Do not allow people or pets to enter the treated areas for 24 hours after spraying.
Do not graze or feed treated forage or hay from soybeans to livestock following a post-emergence application of this product.
Special Consideration
Because some crops other than soybeans are sensitive to low rates of UP-Front Herbicide, special attention should be given to cleaning equipment before spraying a crop other than those registered for use and on the label.
