Tower Herbicide, manufactured by BASF, is a reliable preemergent solution that controls weeds before they appear with minimal irrigation and provides lasting protection, making it a smart choice for maintaining clean, low-maintenance turfgrass and ornamental settings.

This pre-emergent concentrate gets its strength from dimethenamid-P, a powerful active ingredient in the chloroacetamide class. Unlike other pre-emergents, dimethenamid-P offers broad-spectrum control of both annual grasses and key broadleaf weeds like goosegrass and crabgrass, as well as sedges.

Tower Herbicide provides effective preemergent control of numerous challenging weeds for up to 60 days or longer, ensuring long-lasting protection and reducing the frequency of applications. It readily mixes with both pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides, allowing you to expand your weed control spectrum in a single, convenient application.

Tools Needed

You will need a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, hose-end sprayer, or spray rig.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Tower Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For general applications, use 0.48 or 0.73 fl. oz. of Tower Herbicide per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. In a single application, do not apply more than 32 fl. oz. of Tower Herbicide per acre. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
  • Step 2: Fill the sprayer with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of product, then pour in the remaining half of the water. Close the tank lid and shake the solution until well-mixed.
  • Step 3: Spray the product evenly across the treatment area until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Tower Herbicide must be watered into the soil with rainfall or irrigation equivalent to 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of water within 24 hours after application.
  • Step 4: Repeat treatment again in 5 to 8 weeks to provide control until frost.

Where to Use

Tower Herbicide can be used in commercial ornamental production, residential landscape, commercial landscape, institutional landscape, grounds maintenance, tree plantings, and turfgrass areas.

When to Use

Make applications spring through fall when soil temperatures are above 55 degrees Fahrenheit and when weeds are not present. Apply to dense and well-established turfgrass.

Do not apply to actively growing turfgrass and/or ornamental plants when soil temperature is less than 55 degrees Fahrenheit or as plants are coming out of dormancy.

Safety Information

Tower Herbicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Keep people and pets out of the treatment area until the spray has dried.

Special Considerations

Do not harvest fruit, nuts, or berries for one year after Tower application.
