Surflan Herbicide
Surflan Herbicide is a high-quality, cost-efficient, pre-emergent herbicide. It is locally produced and EPA-approved and effectively controls more than 100 different weeds and grasses in gardens, ornamentals, lawns, and landscaping areas.
Sulflan Herbicide, manufactured by DOW/CORTEVA, is a pre-emergent liquid concentrate that can be mixed for surface application and deliver up to 8 months of weed control.
This pre-emergent effectively controls grasses and weeds. Its orange color helps it act as a spray marker during application.
Surflan Herbicide is an easy-to-use selective pre-emergent herbicide that controls numerous weeds from seeds within turf and ornamentals. It ensures season-long annual grass and broadleaf weed control before they develop and damage desired plants.
Tools Needed
You will need a backpack, tank, or handheld sprayer to use this product. A hand-pump sprayer would be ideal for smaller applications.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Surflan Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, divide the square footage by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). A general application of Surflan Herbicide will use 1.5 or 3 fl. oz. of product in 2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft.
- Step 2: Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the proper amount of Surflan Herbicide, then pour in the rest of the water. Maintain continuous agitation of the sprayer tank until well-mixed and application to the target area is complete.
- Step 3: Remove any leftover weed residue, pruning, and other trash so the ground is clear before spraying. In field applications, the soil should be at a good tilt and free of clods at the time of application. Apply Surflan Herbicide as a directed spray to the soil surface or over the top of plants. A minimum of one-half inch of rain or equivalent in sprinkler irrigation is necessary to activate the product. Be sure to water after application or within 21 days after application.
Where to Use
Surflan Herbicide can be used on landscape ornamentals, container-grown ornamentals, field-grown ornamentals, drainage areas under shade house benches, ornamental bulbs, ground covers, Christmas tree plantations, noncropland, and industrial sites, non-bearing fruit and nut trees and non-bearing vineyards, and listed established warm-season turf.
Do not apply to cool-seasoned turf, golf course putting greens or tees, or lawns containing dichondra.
When to Use
Apply before weeds are present in spring, late summer, and fall.
Do not apply this product in the spring or early summer to tall fescue turfgrass reseeded the previous fall.
Safety Information
Surflan Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Keep people and pets out of treated areas for at least 1 day after application.
Special Considerations
Reseeding should be delayed for at least 90 to 120 days following application of Surflan Herbicide.
