SureGuard SC Herbicide, manufactured by Nufarm, provides extended pre-emergennt and post-emergent residual control over grass and broadleaf weeds in aquatic settings, frequently spanning 8 months or beyond. This extended duration not only optimizes efficiency but also minimizes the need for frequent re-application, resulting in time and cost savings.

This specialized formulation contains the potent active ingredient flumioxazin, ensuring pinpoint targeting of weed seeds before they can emerge, and ensuring that your landscape remains free from unwanted growth.

SureGuard SC delivers a potent post-emergent knockdown with long-lasting residual control when coupled with non-selective counterparts such as glyphosate, enhancing your weed management strategy.

Tools Needed

Most conventional liquid pesticide plant sprayers can be used to apply SureGuard SC Herbicide such as a hose-end sprayer, backpack sprayer, or handheld pump sprayer.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much SureGuard SC Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To calculate the surface area of water, measure the length and width in feet and volume of water body (length X width X depth = surface area of water). For land applications, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For listed weeds on the surface of water, apply 6 to 12 oz. of SureGuard SC Herbicide per surface acre. Applications to bare ground non-crop areas, apply 8 to 12 fl. oz. of product in 40 gallons of water per acre. For turf and ornamental sites with a backpack sprayer, apply 0.18 to 0.27 fl. oz. of product in 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
  • Step 2: In a large container, add half of the required amount of water and then add the appropriate amount of SureGuard SC Herbicide to the larger container. Fill the container the rest of the way with the remaining half of water. Mix well and then pour into the sprayer tank. It is recommended to also use a post-emergent such as glyphosate for effective post-emergent control. Do not mix with glyphosate when applying to containerized ornamentals. Maintain good agitation at all times until the contents of the tank are sprayed.
  • Step 3: Spray targeted weeds and brush until wet with SureGuard SC Herbicide. If treating bodies of water that are approved by the product label, only spray areas where targeted weeds are growing.

Where to Use

SureGuard SC Herbicide is for the control of undesirable aquatic vegetation in slow moving waters, for use to maintain bare ground non-crop areas, conifer and poplar re-forestation sites, for use in container and field grown conifers and deciduous trees, and around established woody ornamentals in landscapes.

When to Use

For preemergence application, apply SureGuard SC Herbicide prior to weeds emerging. Moisture is essential to facilitate the downward movement of this product into the soil to ensuring effective preemergence weed control.

For postemergence application, apply SureGuard SC to actively growing weeds. For optimal postemergence weed control using this product, it is recommended to apply it in conjunction with a surfactant to weeds that are under 2 inches in height.

Applying SureGuard SC during early morning hours may help to enhance weed control.

Safety Information

SureGuard SC Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Do not allow adults, children or pets to enter the treated area until sprays have dried.

Special Considerations

Direct application of SureGuard SC Herbicide to actively growing foliage can cause severe injury or death with sensitive ornamental plant species, especially in herbaceous bedding plants and flowers. Do not apply this product when the weeds are under stress due to drought, excessive water and extremes in temperatures or disease.
