Sonar AS Aquatic Herbicide
Sonar AS Aquatic Herbicide
Sonar AS Aquatic Herbicide is manufactured by Sepro Corporation and is an aquatic herbicide ideal for managing invasive aquatic weeds in non-irrigation ponds. Sonar AS is the original liquid formulation of the Sonar brand and comes in an easy-to-use liquid formulation. Sonar contains 5% fluridone as its active ingredient and works systetmically by stopping photosynthesis, which eventually kills the plant. Sonar controls a wide range of floating and submersed weeds like Duckweed, watermeal and plenty of others. If you want to restore the look of your pond and get rid of all those ugly weeds, Sonar AS should be a top selection for aquatic weed control.
Tools Needed
To use Sonar AS, you will need to mix the product in either a hand-pump, power or backpack sprayer.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine the amount of Sonar AS you need by calculating your water body size and depth. The formula to follow is the average water depth of treatment site (feet) x Desired ppb concentration of active ingredient x 0.0027. For example, the quarts per acre of Sonar AS required to provide a concentration of 25 ppb of active ingredient in water with an average depth of 5 feet is calculated 5 x 25 x 0.0027 = 0.33 quarts per treated surface acre or 10.5 fl. oz in 5 to 100 gallons per acre. Use a higher ppb rate for dense weed mass or when treating a more difficult to control species. Check the label to see the exact rates for your water body size and depth.
- Step 2: Shake the Sonar AS bottle well and then fill your selected sprayer tank with the appropriate amount of water. Add the specified amount of Sonar AS needed for the application making sure to agitate while filling and during spraying.
- Step 3: Apply the Sonar AS application to the water surface until the entire area is treated, preferably via fan nozzle spray setting for uniform coverage.
Where to Use
Sonar AS is designed to manage aquatic vegetation in freshwater ponds, lakes, reservoirs, drainage canals and irrigation canals, including dry or dewatered areas of these sites.
When to Use
Use Sonar AS if your water body is becoming overcome with undesired pond weeds that may be interfering with recreation and ruining the overall look of your pond. Apply in the early spring when weeds are actively growing or are just starting to grow for best results.
Safety Information
Sonar AS is safe to use when applied according to label directions. Please wear the necessary PPE (gloves, boots, long-sleeved clothing) before applying the product to your pond.
Special Considerations
Sonar AS can be used in split or multiple applications on a water body but the sum of all the applications must not go over a total of 90 ppb per calendar year for the treated water.
