Soilgard 12G Microbial Fungicide
Soilgard 12G Microbial Fungicide is an effective granular microbial fungicide that harnesses natural soil fungus to combat soil-borne pathogens like Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, and root rots in ornamentals and food crop plants.
04/04/26
Soilgard 12G Microbial Fungicide, manufactured by Certis USA, is an excellent microbial fungicide that protects the roots of ornamentals, food crop plants, and tobacco by preventing soil-borne diseases before they start.
Unlike chemical fungicides, this granular fungicide utilizes a living organism to suppress disease-causing pathogens. The GL-21 strain of Gliocladium virens colonizes the root zone, outcompeting and inhibiting the growth of harmful fungi like damping-off, root rot, and more.
Soilgard 12G Microbial Fungicide is an easy-to-apply granular fungicide that actively defends foliage from key diseases. Soilgard doesn’t just deliver a quick fix. The fungus continues to grow and colonize the soil, providing season-long protection as long as environmental conditions support its activity. It becomes a natural part of your soil ecosystem.
Tools Needed
It can be applied with a backpack sprayer or chemigation system.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Soilgard 12G Microbial Fungicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For turfgrass, apply 2 to 4 oz. of Soilgard 12G Microbial Fungicide in 1 to 2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. To treat ornamental plants and flower beds (indoor/outdoor), use 2 to 4 oz. of product per 100 gallons of water. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Fill the sprayer tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of granules, and then pour the remaining half of water into the tank. Shake the solution until well-mixed.
- Step 3: Spray the soil around plants until wet, but not to the point of runoff. The granules can also be mixed directly into the soil or growing media. For turf, irrigate with 1/4 to 1/2 inches of water after application. Avoid watering ornamentals and flower beds for 12 hours after application. For transplanted crops, do not apply over the top or to the foliage after transplanting.
- Step 4: Repeat application every 1 to 3 weeks as necessary to maintain disease control.
Where to Use
Soilgard 12G Microbial Fungicide can be used for ornamental, food crop plants and tobacco grown in greenhouses, nurseries, interiorscapes, and outdoors on agricultural and ornamental crops, vegetables, and tobacco.
Do not apply to foliage or edible crop matter.
When to Use
Apply before planting to establish a protective microbial barrier against soil-borne pathogens. Use during seedling and transplant stages to protect young plants, which are most susceptible to root diseases.
Plants with true leaves and established roots can be transplanted immediately into treated pots.
Safety Information
Soilgard 12G Microbial Fungicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Keep people and pets out of the treated area for 4 hours after application.
Special Considerations
Do not use this product in media totally devoid of organic matter (such as sand). G. virens requires organic matter to grow and work. If the only available organic substrate is the seed, bulb, or other plant material, G. virens may cause injury to it.
