Simazine 4L

Simazine 4L is for pre-emergence control of many annual broadleaf weeds and grasses in ornamentals and turf. It controls weeds in forests, greenhouse-grown crops, and nursery-grown ornamentals. Simazine 4L is a herbicide that should be applied before weeds emerge or following removal of weed growth. It controls a wide variety of annual broadleaf and grass weeds when used at selective rates in agricultural and ornamental crops.

Target Pests

Simazine 4L is used to control most annual broad leaf and grass weeds: Annual Bluegrass Carpetweed Common Chickweed Crabgrass Foxtails Pigweed ragweed Russian Thistle Wild oats Witchgrass and other weeds listed on the product label.

Application

Apply 1.6 to 2 pints of this product (0.8 to 1 lb. a.i.) per acre in the late Fall when the crop is well established. The application should be timed to coincide with the start of the Winter rainfall period to control germinating annual weeds. A second application at the rate of 1.6 to 2 pints of this product (0.8 to 1 lb. a.i.) per acre can be made in the Spring just after the last cultivation. Use a minimum of 20 gallons of spray solution with ground equipment per acre. For best results, field will have been cultivated one or more times and be relatively weed-free at time of treatment. Irrigation is not required to activate the herbicide if adequate rainfall is received.

A friend in landscape maintenence told me he uses it as a post merge as well. I was wondering if any truth to it.

Can it be used on forage and pasture?

BEST ANSWER: The Simazine 4L is label for the application on fields and forage crops. It does have a No Grazing restriction on the label. For pastures that will have animals or it will be used for the feed we would not recommend it.
Can simazine be applied to blackberries?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, Simazine is labeled for the use on blackberry fields. It is normally applied in the spring and fall months. Do not apply when the fruit is present and no more than twice a calendar year.
