Segment II Herbicide

Segment ll Herbicide, manufactured by BASF, is a liquid pre-emergent that delivers effective, targeted control of unwanted grassy weeds in ornamentals, groundcovers, and turf - without harming desirable plants. With its selective action and low risk of phytotoxicity, it’s ideal for maintaining clean, professional-looking landscapes.

Its active ingredient, sethoxydim, inhibits the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase, essential for fatty acid synthesis in grasses, effectively stopping weed growth such as crabgrass, bahiagrass, and more. Segment ll Herbicide becomes rainfast within one hour, ensuring its efficacy even in unpredictable weather conditions.

Tools Needed

A backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, spray rig, and other tank-type sprayers can be used. 

How to Use

• Step 1: Determine how much Segment ll Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiplying them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). To control grasses below 6 inches in height, use 0.6 fl. oz. of Segment ll Herbicide per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. To control grasses up to 12 inches in height, apply 0.9 fl. oz. of product per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For spot treatments, apply 2 fl. oz. of product with 1 gallon of water. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions. 
• Step 2: Fill the sprayer tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of product, and then pour in the remaining half of the water. Close the tank lid and shake until the solution is well-mixed. 
• Step 3: Spray the top and bottom of the weed leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Repeat application if new germination or regrowth of grass weeds occurs.

Where to Use

Segment ll Herbicide can be used in turf, ornamentals, nonfood, and noncrop sites.

Only use on centipedegrass and fine fescue. Application to other turfgrass species will result in unacceptable injury or plant death.

When to Use

Apply when weeds are actively growing on turf that is over 1 year old and 4 to 6 weeks after wildflower emergence, but not during flowering for ornamentals.

It is rainfast after 1 hour. 

Safety Information

Segment ll Herbicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product. 

Keep people and pets out of the treated area until the sprays have dried. 

Special Considerations

Avoid using Segment II with adjuvants at temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit and relative humidity is at or above 60%, or any time the temperature exceeds 100 degrees Fahrenheit, as injury may result.

Do not use treated vegetation as pasture, hay, feed, or forage.
