Red Spray Pattern Indicator (Brandt Mark-It)
Red Spray Pattern Indicator (Brandt Mark-It)
Red Spray Pattern Indicator dye is mixed with various types of liquid lawn care products to indicate areas that have been treated. Using Red Spray Pattern Indicator dye helps to prevent wasting product by over-applying. It also helps to detect product drift to prevent treating non-targeted areas. Red Spray Pattern Indicator dye will not stain most surface areas, and will easily wash off turfs and lawns. Never under or over-treat a turn or lawn again when using Red Spray Pattern Indicator dye.
Tools Needed
To apply Red Spray Pattern Indicator, a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, or skid sprayer is needed. It will also need to be mixed with a compatible liquid spray.
How to Use
- Step 1: Calculate the square footage of the area you wish to treat to determine how much pesticide and dye mixture you need. To do this, measure and multiply the area length times the width (length x width = square footage). For hand-held or back-pack sprayers (3 to 5 gallons), use 1 oz. per gallon to cover 1,000 sq. ft.
- Step 2: Fill the tank halfway with the appropriate amount of water and the concentrated solution, such as pesticide, fertilizer, or herbicide. Always read the label to make sure it is compatible with a concentrate marker dye. When the spray tank is half full, add the correct amount of Red Spray Pattern Indicator dye to the tank. Use 1 ounce of dye per 1 gallon of spray solution.
- Step 3: Shake the sprayer to mix well and begin applying the solution mix according to the insecticide, fertilizer, or herbicide product label.
Where to Use
The Red Spray Pattern Indicator is ideal for use on large outdoor surface areas, such as golf courses, utility areas, parks, and other types of turfs and lawns.
When to Use
Red Spray Pattern Indicator should be used when applying liquid lawn care products such as pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers to help indicate areas that have already been treated to prevent over treatment or under treatment.
Safety Information
Red Spray Pattern Indicator is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label of both the red dye and the herbicide product it is being applied with.
Special Considerations
When using Red Spray Pattern Indicator near surface areas not listed on the label, spot check before treating the entire area to be sure it will not stain.

It does stain your hands, and most things it comes in contact with (like your shoes when you walk over where you sprayed), but I found that bleach works well to get rid of the stains quickly, wherever appropriate.
