Proxy Growth Regulator

Proxy Growth Regulator, manufactured by Envu, effectively suppresses seedheads in Poa annua (annual bluegrass), helping to improve the appearance and health of turfgrass. It also limits the growth of labeled cool-season grasses, making it ideal for reducing excess growth and maintaining a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing lawn or turf area.

It contains ethephon 21.7%, which regulates turf growth on desirable grasses, suppresses seedhead formation of Poa annua and white clover, helps form a tighter turf canopy, and reduces the mowing frequency. Proxy Growth Regulator unique formulation avoids initial shock or post-application flush, and has a lower risk of phytotoxicity compared to other PGRs.

Tools Needed

A backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, or hose-end sprayer can be used. 

How to Use

• Step 1: Determine how much Proxy Growth Regulator to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). Apply 5 fl. oz. of Proxy Growth Regulator per 1 to 2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Do not exceed a maximum of 30 fl. oz. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. per year. 
• Step 2: Fill the sprayer tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of product, then pour in the remaining half of the water. Close the tank lid and shake until the solution is well-mixed. Mix only the amount of spray you expect to use each day. Do not allow mixed solution to stand overnight.
• Step 3: Spray the top and bottom of plant leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Repeat applications may be made to predominately Poa annua or white clover sites as needed, but not less than two weeks after the previous application. Specific turf species may require longer retreatment so it would be best to refer to the label. 

Where to Use

Proxy Growth Regulator can be used on turf including golf (greens, tees, fairways, and roughs), parks, and sports turf.

Commercial Turfgrasses including Bentgrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, Tall and Fine Fescue, and Bermudagrass can also be treated.

Not For Residential Use.

When to Use

For best turfgrass growth regulation, apply when daytime air temperatures are above 65 degrees Fahrenheit and rising.  

Do not treat turfgrass with poor root systems or growing under stress due to poor soil conditions, drought, disease, or insect damage.

Safety Information

Proxy Growth Regulator is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product. 

Do not allow people or pets to enter the treated area until the spray has dried.

Special Considerations

Use of a spreader sticker with an application of Proxy Growth Regulator is not necessary.

Prolonged exposure to spray deposits will damage acrylic plastics, certain paints, and metals because of the acidic nature of this product. Rinse thoroughly all exposed acrylic plastic materials and painted surfaces with a detergent and water within one hour after exposure to spray deposits.
