Osmocote Blue-Max Aluminum Sulphate (2-3M) Fertilizer contains effective ingredients that helps to eliminate consistent applications and safely lower phytotoxicity risk than drenches for increased blue color of hydrangea flowers.
Tools Needed
To apply Osmocote Blue-Max Aluminum Sulphate (2-3M) Fertilizer, you will need a handheld spreader.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Osmocote Blue-Max Aluminum Sulphate (2-3M) Fertilizer to use by measuring the cubic yard of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length, width, and depth of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together and then divide the total by 27 (length X width X depth = total / 27 = cubic yard). Depending on the plant container sizes and how many there are in the treatment area will vary in application rates so it would be best to refer to the product label. For 300 containers measuring about trade 1 gallon, use either 12 or 18 grams of Osmocote Blue-Max Aluminum Sulphate (2-3M) Fertilizer per cubic yard. To treat about 35 containers measuring about 7 gallons, apply either 104 or 156 grams of product per cubic yard.
- Step 2: Adjust the rate of application on handheld spreader to deliver the proper ratio. Load the measured amount of Osmocote Blue-Max Aluminum Sulphate (2-3M) Fertilizer into the spreader.
- Step 3: Broadcast the Osmocote Blue-Max Aluminum Sulphate (2-3M) Fertilizer uniformly over soil surface, making sure that product does not pile up against leaves and stems. Water in immediately after application.
Where to Use
Osmocote Blue-Max Aluminum Sulphate (2-3M) Fertilizer can only be applied to the soil surface of outdoor blue hydrangea flowers.
Avoid applications to stems and leaves.

Depending on the average media temperature of hydrangeas the residual rate will vary. For example:
60 degrees Fahrenheit will not require another application until 3-4 months have passed.
70 degrees Fahrenheit will last up to 2-3 months.
80 degrees Fahrenheit will last up to 1-2 months.
90 degrees Fahrenheit will last up to 0.5-1.5 months.

Q:I have a small, start-up backyard nursery. I just ordered Blue Max to feed my Nikko Blue and Penny Mac paniculata hydrangea. I want to keep them in containers for another season. How much Blue Max per 3 gallon pot should I apply? Thank you.3/6/24A:Since this is more of a commercial fertilizer it is intended for wide-scale application and not individual treatments. It does state on the label to treat approximately 70 nursery 3 gallon containers with 58 or 78 grams of Osmocote Blue-Max Aluminum Sulphate (2-3M) Fertilizer per cubic yard.
