Monterey Spurge Power
Monterey Spurge Power is a three-way, post-emergent, selective herbicide used for treating broadleaf weeds in residential lawns. It effectively kills spurge, dandelions, clover, and many common weeds that invade lawns.
02/01/26
Monterey Spurge Power, manufactured by Monterey, is a post-emergent, selective herbicide formulated with 3 active ingredients to kill broadleaf weeds in residential lawns quickly and easily.
This product can be used on warm- and cool-season lawns to treat hard-to-kill weeds, such as spurge, dandelion, clover, and many other broadleaf weeds.
Monterey Spurge Power makes the mixing solution simple by recommending two rates, where the higher rate can be used for tougher, established weeds or when lawns are completely dormant.
Tools Needed
For high-volume applications, you will need a pump sprayer, hose end sprayer, backpack sprayer, or spray rig. Applications must use between 2 and 5 gallons of water, so we recommend using a 4-gallon backpack sprayer.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Monterey Spurge Power to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage, measure the treatment area's length and width in feet, and then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). Spurge Power will need to be applied at a rate of 1 or 1.25 fluid ounces in 2 to 5 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet. For example, if you measured a 1,500 sq. ft. area, you would need 1.5 or 1.88 fl oz. of Spurge Power with 3 to 7.5 gallons of water. Refer to the product label for specific rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer halfway with water in your spray tank. Add the proper amount of Spurge Power based on your calculations, and then fill your spray tank the rest of the way with water. Shake to ensure an even mix.
- Step 3: Apply Spurge Power over your lawn as a broadcast spray or as a spot treatment for targeted weeds. Use low pressure and a coarse spray to ensure adequate coverage and minimize drift. For best results, delay mowing your lawn until 1 or 2 days after application.
Where to Use
Monterey Spurge Power is meant for use on residential and ornamental lawns. It can be used on both cool- and warm-season grasses.
When to Use
Use low wind speeds to minimize drift and when rain is not in the immediate forecast. For best results, apply in early spring or early fall when weeds are actively growing and not yet established. Avoid application when temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent accidental harm to turf.
Safety Information
Spurge Power is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Keep all people and pets off the treated areas until dry.
Special Considerations
When temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit, damage may occur in Centipede or St. Augustine grass. If you are unsure how your turf will handle application, spray a small test area and note any adverse changes over 30 days.
