Monterey Horticultural Oil
Monterey Horticultural Oil is a effective organic fungicide, insecticide, and miticide concentrate that controls diseases as well as the egg, larvae, and nymph stages of insects on a wide range of residential plants.
09/21/25
Monterey Horticultural Oil, manufactured by Monterey, is a highly refined mineral oil based fungicide, insecticide, and miticide that provides total disease and pest control on a broad range of crops and ornamentals.
Targets and kills a variety of pests such as thrips, sawflies, and whiteflies by remaining on treated long enough to suffocate these insects when covered with the oil solution. Unlike other horticultural oils, this product contains no heat restrictions ensuring safe and efficient disease or pest control during the dormant and growing season of plants.
Monterey Horticultural Oil is a odorless solution that effectively disrupts the pest life cycle all the way to the egg stage. Additionally, this non-staining product will create a non-toxic barrier on plant surfaces thus interfering with fungal pathogens ability to attach and spread via contact.
Tools Needed
Monterey Horticultural Oil may be applied with a handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or trigger sprayer.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Monterey Horticultural Oil to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). General applications on fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals will use 2.5 to 5.0 tablespoons of Monterey Horticultural Oil per 1-2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Refer the label for specific restrictions.
- Step 2: Fill the sprayer half full with water, add the appropriate rate of Monterey Horticultural Oil and continue filling the sprayer. Spray formulation should be mixed well and often.
- Step 3: Completely penetrate the leaf canopy and cover both top and bottom of all of the leaves until wet without significant runoff.
Where to Use
Monterey Horticultural Oil should only be used in home fruit and vegetable gardens, home greenhouses, interior plantscapes and ornamental gardens.
When to Use
Apply Monterey Horticultural Oil as needed for pest and fungi activities on days when rainfall is not expected to occur for the next 24 hours after application.
Citrus — Applications after October may increase cold damage to trees; applied in August and September may affect solids content, retard color.
Walnut — Apply this product late spring to mid-summer only. Do not apply after husk split.
Safety Information
Monterey Horticultural Oil is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Keep all persons (other than applicator) and pets out of treated areas until sprays have dried.
