Milky Spore Powder, manufactured by St. Gabriel Organics, is a select one time application and ready to use powder that targets the larvae of Japanese Beetles.

Contains the active ingredient Bacillus Papilliae 0.02 %, which is a natural bacterial that will not harm other insects when feeding on the product or food crops. Once ingested the spores within this product will quickly multiply inside the grub killing it from within. Another unexpected benefit is it helps to rid your lawn of unsightly brown spots.

Milky Spore Powder provides a long term Japanese beetle grub solution for up to 20 years making it an economical product. Safe to use on grassy areas at any point in the season and remains dormant until feeding activity begins ensuring the next wave of infestation is eliminated.

Tools Needed

Milky Spore Powder is a ready to use product that can be used right out of the container. You may also need a dispenser tube to release the powder from the container more easily.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Locate areas where insects are traveling and hiding and then calculate the size of the area you wish to treat in square feet. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length x width = square footage). Milky Spore Powder is recommended to be applied at a rate of one level teaspoon every 4 feet along rows four feet apart on the ground between plants or top of grass. Apply 10 oz. of product to treat a 2,500 sq. ft. area. For 4,000 sq. ft. use 1 pound of Milky Spore Powder. For 10,000 sq. ft. use 2.5 lbs. of Milky Spore Powder. For one acre of lawn use 10 pounds of this product.
  • Step 2: Evenly shake the Milky Spore Powder from the container or dispenser tube until plants and grass have an even coverage on the top of leaves and on the ground in between plants. Once applied water the powder in gently for about fifteen minutes.

Where to Use

Milky Spore Powder can be used on lawns, grassy areas, ornamental gardens, flower beds, mulched beds, and ground cover beds.

When to Use

Milky Spore Powder can be used anytime of the year when the ground is not frozen. Typically this will be in spring or summer, when insect activity is most frequent. Apply on calm, warm days when rain is not expected for 24 hours.

Safety Information

Milky Spore Powder is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the product label. Always make sure to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or applying this product.

Special Considerations

Uniform, highly efficient control cannot be expected until the entire treatment area including the ground between grass and plants has been treated with Milky Spore Powder. Reapplications may be necessary if not properly applied or the product being blown or washed away by rainfall within 24 hours of application.

Great product
Recommend the mole spores especially to kill grubs and get rid of mole problems. Easy to put down and very effective. Should last several years.

Absolutely a great product for Japanese Beetles control
Milky spore powder is an effective organic control of Japanese Beetles, and it will last for 10+ years. When applied properly, IT DOES WORK. It is not intended to control moles, so the person who gave it one star because it didn't take care of the moles did not read the intended use. It is also not intended to be spread with a spreader, but applied at a rate of 1 tsp every four feet In rows that are four feet apart. The grubs will ingest the bacteria and die, releasing more spores for other grubs to ingest. We have used Milky spore in both gardens and orchards, and it will help immensely with the damage that Japanese Beetles cause. Use with beneficial nematodes Heterohabditis bacteriophora for even better control.

I am VERY dissappointed with Milky Spore Powder
From the reviews I expected the Milky Spore powder to work. I purchased a spreader designed to apply this powder so feel that I did all that I could do when applying. I am in North Central Florida and applied the powder in March of 2022. I haven't had much mole activity until now and 1/2 of my back yard has been attacked by an army of moles. They are thick. I cannot wait any longer for it to work so have just ordered some grub control that I have used in the past.

Questions and Answers
  1. Q:Can you mix it with water and spray it o n lawn?
    11/13/23
A:The.insteuctions say put down dry every 4 feet. Not on a windy day and wear a.mask. it is possible the powder will gum up the sprayer. The spores spread out from the individual piles and covers the area very well I had a bad mole problem two years ago and have not had.one mole or tunnel since putting down the spores.
