Komeen Aquatic Herbicide Algaecide
Komeen Aquatic Herbicide Algaecide
Komeen is a powerful and effective aquatic herbicide that has a faster uptake than most other copper based herbicides. This herbicide works quickly, and will kill most weeds and algae in 3-14 days after treatment. Komeen has a wide use label, as it is able to be applied using a variety of different methods from small volume to large volume application.
Tools Needed
Komeen can be applied in many different methods, from surface sprays to aerial sprays to subsurface application. Refer to the label for a full list of application methods. For household use or small volume application, we suggest using a 1-gallon hand pump sprayer.
How to Use
- Step 1: Identify which weeds or algae you intend to target, as the mix rate depends on which plant is targeted. Refer to the label for the full list of affected plants.
- Step 2: Apply the product in the desired area, using your preferred application method. Be sure the plants are in contact with the treated water for 3-24 hours, otherwise reapplication may be necessary.
- Step 3: Observe the plants after treatment, and if the affected plants do not drop below the surface in 3-14 days then reapplication may be required in 10-14 days after initial application.
- Step 4: Reapply as directed until the weed pressure is reduced to an acceptable level. Remember that some aquatic plant life is good, as the plants replenish the oxygen in the water. If too many plants die at one time it can reduce the oxygen levels in the water too much and cause aquatic life to die out.
Where to Use
Use Komeen in most bodies of water, such as lakes, reservoirs and ponds to control most aquatic weeds and algae. Refer to the label for the full list of applicable sites.
When to Use
Use Komeed either during the first signs of algae or weed growth, or during an active infestation. If the infestation is severe, it make take multiple treatments and a longer time to completely eliminate the pest.
Safety Information
It is important to wear proper personal protective equipment anytime you handle the chemical, measure and mix the chemical, or apply the chemical. Some fish or other aquatic animals may be sensitive to copper, and the type of water can increase or decrease the risk of harming non-target organic life. Refer to the label for more information.
Special Considerations
Anytime a large volume of aquatic plants is removed from an environment it can be a threat to aquatic life, as this can cause less oxygen to be in the water and more carbon dioxide. It is also important to know that some fish, like trout and koi, are sensitive to copper and may be harmed if applied to water they are present in. Refer to the label for a full list of precautions before application.
