Katana Herbicide
Katana Herbicide
Katana Herbicide is manufactured by PBI Gordon and is a selective, post-emergent herbicide that delivers exceptional control of broadleaf and grassy weeds in warm-season turf like Poa annua, ryegrass, tall fescue and 58+ other listed weeds. This product comes in a 5 oz container which can go a long way as you only need a small amount to do a lot of damage.
Tools Needed
To use Katana Herbicide, you will need to mix the product into a sprayer of your choosing such as a backpack, hose-end or hand-pump sprayer. For the average job, a hand-pump gallon sprayer works best.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Katana Herbicide you will need for your application by calculating the square footage of your yard. To do this, measure (in feet) the area length and width and multiply the two values (length x width = square footage). The typical rate to use Katana Herbicide is between 0.034 - 0.068 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. or 1.5 - 3 oz. per acre. The rate varies depending on the weed you want removed. So for example, if you are wanting to get rid of Purple Nutsedge, the rate is 0.68 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. in a gallon of water. For 3,000 sq. ft. you would need 2.04 oz. of Katana mixed in 3 gallons of water.
- Step 2: Fill your sprayer halfway with the appropriate amount of water. Add the appropriate measured amount of Katana Herbicide based on your calculations and then fill with the remaining half of water. Close the sprayer lid and agitate until the solution is well mixed.
- Step 3: Broadcast spray or spot treat based on the severity of your grassy weed problem, making sure to get even coverage via fan spray setting. Reapply the product in 3 or 4 weeks if weeds are still persisting and repeat as needed for full control all season long.
Where to Use
Katana Herbicide may be used on golf courses (fairways, roughs, greens, tees, collars, and approaches) and the following turf areas: industrial parks, tank farms, sod farms, seed farms, cemeteries, professional managed sports fields, and commercial turf. Residential turf application is limited to a targeted, directed spray of weeds only.
When to Use
For best results in the post-emergent control of grassy weeds, Early summer treatments are most effective. Late summer application (after August 15) to mature crabgrass can be very effective. Application in the middle of the summer from July 15 to August 15 will prove less effective to older, drought-stressed grassy weeds.
Safety Information
Katana Herbicide is safe to use when applied according to label directions. Before applying this product, please make sure to put on the proper PPE for safety (long-sleeved clothing, gloves, face mask, goggles). The product is safe for pets and kids when used according to the label. Pets and children should not be present during treatment and should remain out of the treated areas until they have completely dried.
Special Considerations
Some ornamental shrubs, plants and trees may be sensitive to Katana Herbicide. Do not make applications that would result in direct contant with sensitive plants.

Q:I'm using this Katana herbicide to treat and kill poa annua weeds that are growing rampant in my bermuda and zoysia grass, is it best to apply it right after I mow my lawn and of course cut down the poa annua weeds or should I wait in applying the Herbicide until the weed grows to the point to where it's sprouting seeds ?5/14/23A:Katana Herbicide should be applied when weeds are young and actively growing. Do not mow the weed as its not stated on the label. Its not recommended to wait until they produce seeds as this can spread the infestation. To prevent poa annua weeds in your bermudagrass and zoysiagrass lawn we recommend Barricade Granular Pre-emergent Herbicide. https://www.solutionsstores.com/barricade-granular-herbicide
