Kaput-D Ground Squirrel Bait - Restricted

The product is a restricted use pesticide so you will need a special applicator's license to even purchase the bait and use it. 

Kaput-D Ground Squirrel Bait, manufactured by Kaput Scimetrics, is a granular bait designed to control California ground squirrels and the fleas that live on them. 

The bait is a highly palatable oat-based formulation that competes well with California Ground Squirrel's natural food sources. 

Tools Needed

To use Kaput-D Ground Squirrel Bait, you can apply a scoop spoon and an appropriately modified bait station to place the bait.

How to Use

• Step 1: Manually apply 2 to 4 pounds of bait in modified bait stations (inverted “T” with “elbows” or platform station) near each burrow opening being used by California ground squirrels. The area around each burrow where bait will be distributed may be no larger than 50 square feet (e.g., a circular area no more than 8 feet in diameter).
• Step 2: Re-apply bait to the same area at 2 to 3 days intervals for 3 to 4 applications if ground squirrels remain active and continue to consume the bait. A continuous supply of bait is needed for 6 to 12 days to ensure that all squirrels present can feed on bait for at least five consecutive days. Do not exceed the maximum application rate of 0.5 cup per burrow for 4 applications.
• Step 3: Dispose of dead squirrels using gloves and bury them at least 18 below the ground. Carcass collection and burial should be performed in the late afternoon, near sundown, to reduce the potential for nocturnal predators to find the poisoned dead squirrels at night.

Where to Use

This product will control California ground squirrels and their fleas in parks, golf courses, fruit tree orchards (dormant season-only), non-crop rights-of-way, and other non-crop areas.

Do not apply where non-target species are likely to be adversely affected by it or where threatened or endangered species potentially at risk from it are present.

When to Use

Use Kaput-D Ground Squirrel Bait when encountering ground squirrels on your managed property or have noticed ground squirrel damage.

Safety Information

Kaput-D Ground Squirrel Bait is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when applying this product.

It should be noted once again that this is RUP (restricted-use pesticide) and should be used in unison with a tamper-resistant bait station in all applications, especially in sites where endangered or threatened wildlife are present. Use gloves when handling the bait.

Special Considerations

This product comes in two sizes a 25-pound bag and a 50-pound bag, that should handle most infestations and will serve for multiple treatments if re-infestation occurs.
