Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control
Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control
Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control, manufactured by VPG, is a granular product that controls crabgrass and other annual grassy weeds like goosegrass in established lawns.
As a selective herbicide, this product will travel through the soil and eliminate targeted weeds from the roots without harming your lawn or ornamental foliage.
Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control is easy to apply and will only need to be applied in the spring since it provides year long control over listed weeds.
Tools Needed
To use Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control, you will need a push or broadcast spreader to spread the granules across your lawn.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control to use by calculating the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure and multiply the treatment areas length and width in feet (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide by one acre 43,560 (square footage / 43,560 = acre). The spring application rate for Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control is 1.75 to 3.5 lbs. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. in cool-seasoned lawns. The spring application rate for warm-seasoned grasses is 2.25 to 3.5 lbs. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. For late summer or early fall applications within cool-seasoned lawns, apply 1.75 to 2.25 lbs. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. For late summer or early fall applications within warm-seasoned lawns, apply 3.5 lbs. of product per 1,000 sq. ft. Do not make more than 2 applications of this product per year.
- Step 2: Calibrate your spreader to the appropriate spreader setting for application and load the measured amount of Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control into the spreader. You may refer to the product label for the calibration setting. If you are unsure which setting to use with your spreader, you can test your spreader settings on 100 sq. ft. of pavement. You will want to apply this to pavement to see your spreader swath and to avoid damaging your turf. You will want to apply at a rate of 1 lb. of product per 100 sq. ft. Adjust your spreader setting until this rate is reached.
- Step 3: Apply Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control from the edge of your treatment area and walk around the perimeter of the area at a steady pace. Then walk back and forth across the treatment area in the middle to cover the space in the middle, but not to the point of overlap. Lightly water the treatment area after Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control has been applied. You may retreat cool-seasoned turf when 56 to 70 days have passed and for warm-seasoned turfs when 70 to 84 days have passed after first applicaiton.
Where to Use
Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control can be used on established lawns and golf courses containing Bahiagrass, Bermudagrass, Bluegrass (perennial), Centipedegrass, Fescue, Ryegrass (perennial), St. Augustinegrass, Zoysiagrass, Bentgrass fairways, and other high cut Bentgrass areas.
This product should not be used on Dichondria, golf course putting greens, or newly sprigged Bermudagrass, St. Augustinegrass, Centipedegrass, or Zoysiagrass.
When to Use
Use Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control during the spring, late summer, late fall, or early winter when weeds have not yet emerged. This product may only be used twice a year so applications in each seasons will not be necessary.
Safety Information
Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control is safe to use around children or pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling and applying this product.
Keep children, people, and pets out of the treatment area for at least 48 hours or until product has settled.
Special Considerations
Hi-Yield Crabgrass Control will not control emerged weeds and may harm spring turfgrass that was planted the previous fall.
This product may thin established Annual Bluegrass and fine Fescues at rates of 100 lbs. per acre.
