Habitat Aquatic Herbicide
Habitat Aquatic Herbicide is a reliable and powerful aquatic herbicide that controls invasive aquatic weeds in water bodies and many brush and vine species growing above the waterline.
11/04/25
Habitat Aquatic Herbicide, manufactured by Sepro, offers reliable, selective vegetation control in even the toughest settings such as lakes, ponds, drainage ditches, and more.
It is powered by imazapyr, a broad-spectrum herbicide that works on both herbaceous and woody plant species. This active ingredient moves through the plant's vascular system, attacking the roots and preventing regrowth.
Habitat Aquatic Herbicide provides long-term suppression and control of tough-to-kill invasive species, especially those with deep root systems. Its low use rate, versatile application options, and ease of use make it an essential product for aquatic weed control programs, wetland restoration, and natural resource management.
Tools Needed
You may use a helicopter, backpack sprayer, spray rig, ground equipment, watercraft, paint brush (for stump treatments), or injection equipment.
For a frill or girdle treatment, you will need a hatchet, machete, or chainsaw.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Habitat Aquatic Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the surface acre of water. To find the surface acre of water, you will need to measure the length and width of the water surface in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For floating vegetation in aquatic sites, apply 2-4 pints of Habitat Aquatic Herbicide per 100 gallons of water per acre. To treat terrestrial and marginal weeds in aquatic sites, use 2 to 6 pints of product per 5 to 20 gallons of water per acre. Refer to the product label for specific application rates and restrictions.
- Step 2: Fill the sprayer tank with half the amount of water, add the proper amount of product, and pour in the remaining amount of water. Allow the pump to run until the solution is mixed.
- Step 3: For low-growing species, spray down on the crown, covering the crown and penetrating approximately 70% of the plant. For target species 4 to 8 feet tall, swipe the sides of target vegetation by directing spray to at least 2 sides of the plant in smooth vertical motions from the crown to the bottom. Make sure to cover the crown whenever possible. For target species over 8 feet tall, lace sides of the target vegetation by directing spray to at least 2 sides of the target in smooth zigzag motions from crown to bottom. For broadcast applications, simulate a gentle rain near the top of target vegetation allowing spray to contact the crown and penetrate the target foliage without causing the solution to runoff.
Where to Use
Habitat Aquatic Herbicide may be applied for the control of floating and emergent undesirable vegetation (see the Aquatic Weeds Controlled section) in or near bodies of water that may be flowing, nonflowing, or transient. Habitat may be applied to aquatic sites that include lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, seeps, drainage ditches, canals, reservoirs, swamps, bogs, marshes, estuaries, bays, brackish water, transitional areas between terrestrial and aquatic sites, riparian sites, and seasonal wet areas.
When to Use
Apply when weeds are fully leafed out and actively growing at any point in the year.
Safety Information
Habitat Aquatic Herbicide is safe for people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Do not allow people or pets to enter the treated area until the spray has dried.
Special Considerations
It does not control plants that are completely submerged or have a majority of their foliage under the water.
