Guarda Fungicide
Guarda Fungicide
Guarda Fungicide, manufactured by BioSafe Systems, is a professional preventative and curative botanical bactericide and fungicide that combats plant pathogens and provides continued defense against these organisms.
This product is the first EPA registered bactericide and fungicide with botanical thyme oil 3% as its active ingredient, resulting in safe treatment of funguses and diseases like rust on edible crops.
Guarda Fungicide ensures extended performance of crop and ornamental protection for up to 14 days. Once applied, this product offers low risk resistance for diseases to possibly return and is compatible with other agrichemicals for greater yields and improved crop quality at harvest.
Tools Needed
Apply Guarda Fungicide only through a drip system or sprinkler including center pivot, lateral move, end tow, side (wheel) roll, traveler, big gun, solid set, hand move, flood (basin), furrow, border or drip (trickle) irrigation systems.
This product is compatible with many commonly used pesticides, fertilizers, adjuvants, and surfactants, but has not been evaluated with all potential combinations.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Guarda Fungicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,650 sq. ft. = acres). For a pre-plant dip application, apply 32-64 oz. (1-2 quarts) of Guarda Fungidie in 10 gallons of water. To treat crops as in-furrow application, use 8.8 fl. oz. of product in 5-15 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. To perform a foliar application on ornamentals, apply 1 gallon of product in 29-159 gallons of water. To treat turfgrasses as a foliar application, use 1 gallon of product in 29-159 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Refer to the product label for specific application rates against diseases and use in certain crops.
- Step 2: To mix, use a separate mix tank. While the agitator is running, fill the tank with half the amount of water then add the proper amount of Guarda Fungicide needed. Then, fill the tank the rest of the way with remaining half of water. Continue agitation while adding the remainder of the water. Begin application of the solution after the product has completely dispersed into the mix water. Maintain agitation until all the mixture has been applied.
- Step 3: Apply the mixed Guarda Fungicide directly over the listed plants or furrow until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Repeat applications in 7-14 day intervals depending upon crop growth and disease pressure.
Where to Use
Apply Guarda Fungicide on ornamental plants, turf, and listed edible crops.
When to Use
Use Guarda Fungicide preventatively or when the first disease symptoms are visible on plants. Make an initial application of this product during or shortly after transplant to reduce transplant shock, suppress soil-borne diseases and improve root growth.
For plant-drip applications, apply this product immediately prior to transplanting.
Safety Information
Guarda Fungicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Though there is a restricted-entry interval (REI) of 0 hours, it would be best to keep people and animals out of treated areas until the spray has completely dried.
Special Considerations
The control of diseases is not systemic with Guarda Fungicde, but provides some translaminar protection.

Keith's Pro Tips | "To ensure compatibility of the tank mix combinations, evaluate prior to use as follows: Using a suitable container, add the proportional amounts of product to water. Add wettable powders first, then water dispersible granules, then liquid flowables, and lastly, emulsifiable concentrates. Mix thoroughly and let stand for at least five minutes. If the combination stays mixed or can be remixed, it is physically compatible. Test the mix on a small portion of the crop to be treated to ensure that a phytotoxic response will not occur as a result of the application." |
Product Drawbacks | Guarda Fungicide will only control minor outbreaks, any major infestations may not be fully controlled. |
