Gunslinger P+D, manufactured by Alligare LLC, is a weed killer for control of undesirable vegetation in established turf, pastures and rangelands.

Gunslinger P+D is the generic version of the popular Grazon P+D brand of herbicide. This emulsifiable concentrate contains an active ingredient combination of Picloram 10.2% and 2 4-D 39.6&, which makes for a pretty lethal and effective herbicide. It is very popular as a farm and industrial herbicide and has been around for a long time.

Gunslinger P+D is a restricted use herbicide and requires a license to purchase and apply. If you're looking for a solid herbicide for invasive weeds on industrial sites and pastures, Gunslinger P+D is a great option.

Tools Needed

To use Gunslinger P+D, you will need to dilute the product with water in a handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or power sprayer. For smaller applications, a pump sprayer or backpack sprayer will do. For larger applications, use a spray rig.

To provide more complete wetting and coverage of the foliage, a non-ionic surfactant may be used at recommended rates.

Do not apply this product with a mistblower.

How to Use

Applying Picloram to Railroad track

  • Step 1: Determine how much Gunslinger P+D to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then and multiply them together (length X width = square footage. For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre acre (square footage / 43,560 = acre). Depending on the region and application site the application rates will vary. For forest planting sites and non-crop areas, apply 2 to 7.4 quarts of Gunslinger P+D per 100 gallons of water per acre to control broadleaf weeds and at rates of 4 to 7.4 quarts of product per 100 gallons of water per acre to control woody plants and vines. Spot treatments in pasture, rangeland, and CRP is 7.4 pints of product per 100 gallons of water per acre with no more than 50% of an acre being treated. Maximum application in pasture, rangeland, and CRP cannot exceed more than 2 applications per year. Spot treatments and broadcast treatments can be applied during the same growing season only if the total amount applied does not exceed 14.8 pints of product per acre per growing season.
  • Step 2: Fill your sprayer halfway with water, then add in the appropriate amount of Gunslinger P+D. Fill the rest of the way with water then agitate until the product is well mixed.
  • Step 3: Spray the Gunslinger mixture to targeted areas where weeds are growing, preferably on a fan spray setting for uniform coverage. Do not allow the spray, even as minute amounts of spray drift, to contact desirable broadleaf plants, and do not wet the soil over roots of such plants. If a second treatment is needed, then wait until 30 days have passed after last application.

Where to Use

Gunslinger P+D can be used for the control of broadleaf annual and perennial weeds, and certain woody species on Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres, rangeland and permanent grass pastures. Alligare GUNSLINGER P+D Herbicide may also be used for control of unwanted annual and perennial broadleaf weeds, woody plants, and vines on forest planting sites and non-crop areas including industrial, manufacturing and storage sites; rights-of-way, such as railroads, electric power lines, communication lines, pipelines, highways; and wildlife openings in forest and non-crop areas.

Do not apply this product in residential areas or near ornamental trees and shrubs.

Do not use this product on sub-irrigated land.

When to Use

Gunslinger P+D can be used on established grasses and plants when weather is relatively warm, and there is windfalls beneath 10 mph. For best results, apply when weeds are less than 3 inches tall from early to mid spring, or when weeds are 3-6 inches tall and flowering from late spring to early summer. You may make applications in the spring or fall when conditions are favorable for weed growth.

Pines planted sooner than 6 months after treatment with Gunslinger P+D may be injured in the South or west of the Cascade Mountains. Other conifers, west of the Cascade Mountains, may be injured if planted sooner than 8 to 9 months after treatment. For all conifers, the waiting period between treatment and planting should be 11 to 12 months in the area between the Cascade and Rocky Mountains and 8 to 9 months in the Lake States and Northeastern U.S.

Do not apply to snow or frozen ground.

Safety Information

Gunslinger P+D is safe to use around children, pets, and livestock when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and when making applications.

Do not transfer livestock from treated grazing areas to broadleaf crop areas without first allowing 7 days of grazing on untreated grass pasture. Otherwise, urine may contain enough picloram to cause injury to sensitive broadleaf plants.

There are no grazing restrictions for non-lactating dairy animals or other livestock including horses, sheep, goats, and other animals in the treatment area. Do not allow lactating dairy animals to graze treated areas within 7 days after application. Do not harvest grass cut for hay from treated areas for 30 days after application. Meat animals must be withdrawn from treated forage at least 3 days before slaughter.

Wait until 48 hours has passed after application before entering treated areas.

Special Considerations

Gunslinger P+D is a restricted-use herbicide that requires an applicator license before purchasing. Keep in mind that there is some soil activity that occurs when applying Picloram, so it may move through the root system where applied.

For program lands, such as Conservation Reserve Program, consult program rules to determine whether grass or hay may be used. The more restrictive requirements of the program rules or this label must be followed.

Do not use manure from animals grazing treated areas on land used for growing broadleaf crops, ornamentals, orchards or other susceptible, desirable plants. Manure may contain enough picloram to cause injury to susceptible plants.
