Freehand 1.75G Herbicide, manufactured by BASF, is a professional-grade granular pre-emergent that knocks out various tough broadleaf and grassy weeds before they ever break the surface in turfgrass, commercial ornamental production sites, landscapes, and other non-crop areas.

With dual active ingredients dimethenamid-P and pendimethalin, it delivers powerful, long-lasting protection in ornamental beds, nurseries, and landscaped areas without harming desirable plants. This combination enhances efficacy and provides a broader spectrum of control compared to single-active herbicides.

Freehand 1.75G Herbicide offers greater stability on the soil surface, remaining highly effective even when irrigation or rainfall is delayed. Protecting against weeds for up to 30 days without immediate watering. This resilience makes it ideal for unpredictable weather and busy maintenance schedules.

Tools Needed

You will need a push spreader, broadcast spreader, rotary spreader, or handheld spreader.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Freehand 1.75G Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. Find the square footage by measuring the treatment area's length and width in feet, then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). For general applications, apply 2.3 pounds of Freehand 1.75G Herbicide per 1,000 sq. ft. For more difficult weed species, use 4.6 pounds of product per 1,000 sq. ft. In smaller treatment areas, use 0.46 pounds of product per 100 sq. ft. Do not apply more than 200 pounds of product per acre in a single application.
  • Step 2: Adjust the spreader to the proper calibration then fill in with the proper amount of granules.
  • Step 3: Spread the granules evenly throughout the area, be sure to avoid overapplication and overlaps. Do not apply until transplants have been watered and soil has been thoroughly packed and settled around transplants. Ensure there are no cracks in the soil where FreeHand 1.75G herbicide could come into contact with the roots. After application, irrigate with 0.5 inches of water or wait for equivalent rainfall to activate the herbicide.
  • Step 4: For extended weed control or where heavy weed infestations are expected, sequential (repeat) applications of FreeHand 1.75G Herbicide can be made 5 to 8 weeks between applications.

Where to Use

Freehand 1.75G Herbicide can be used in commercial ornamental production, landscape and ground maintenance, tree plantations including Christmas trees, and turfgrass.

When to Use

Apply before weeds appear on days (from spring to fall) when the soil temperature is consistently above 55 degrees Fahrenheit. If the application is made before the soil temperature reaches 55 degrees Fahrenheit, some turfgrass species could sustain injury.

For control of winter annual weeds, apply in late summer or early fall before weed seed germination.

A FreeHand 1.75G treatment may be followed by any registered herbicide to control weeds not listed on the product label.

Safety Information

Freehand 1.75G Herbicide is safe to use around people and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling and applying this product.

Special Considerations

For control of established weeds, FreeHand 1.75G may be used in conjunction with herbicides registered for postemergence use.
