Ference Insecticide, manufactured by Syngenta, is a powerful systemic insecticide able to control the larvae stages and certain adult stages of turf pests such as grubs, billbugs, and caterpillars all in one easy application.

This suspended concentrate insecticide provides superintendents and homeowners with an effective and flexible control option for various landscapes and recreational turfgrass.

Ference Insecticide completely stops turf-feeding pests within minutes after they ingest treated foliage and improves the rate of control against annual bluegrass weevils larvae, which ensures long-term control of future populations.

Tools Needed

To apply Ference Insecticide, you will need to use either a handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or spray rig.

Do not apply this product with aerial application equipment or through any type of irrigation system.

How to Use

  • Step 1: Determine how much Ference Insecticide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). Applications to lawns, golf courses, and other recreational turfgrass areas and sod farms will use the rate of 24 fl. oz. of Ference Insecticide in 100 gallons of water per acre or 0.55 fl. oz. in 1 gallon of water of product per 1,000 sq. ft. Do not apply more than 32 fl. oz. of product per acre per calendar year.
  • Step 2: Fill the sprayer with half the amount of water, add measured amount of Ference Insecticide, then pour in the remaining half of water. Close the sprayer tank lid and shake until mixed.
  • Step 3: Adjust the sprayer nozzle to deliver a coarse droplet on a low pressure setting then spray the top and bottom of foliage. Do not spray to the point of runoff. To ensure optimum control, delay watering (irrigation) or mowing for 24 hours after application. However, white grub control is best done by watering turf immediately after application or allow rainfall to move the product into the soil. Wait a minimum of 7 days to retreat.

Where to Use

Ference Insecticide can be used on turfgrasses that are being grown for aesthetic or recreational purposes in or around home lawns, residential dwellings, business and office complexes, shopping complexes, multi-family residential complexes, institutional buildings, airports, cemeteries, parks, playgrounds, schools, daycare facilities, golf courses (tee box areas, roughs, fairways, greens, collars etc.), athletic fields and sod farms. This product may also be used on turfgrass in and around small and large companion animal (including horses) boarding and exercising areas providing that the animals exposed to the treated areas are not used for human consumption.

Do not use on turf grown for seed production.

When to Use

Apply Ference Insecticide when early instar larvae are hatching, before eggs hatch, or when pests are penetrating into the turfgrass sheaths. Typically, this product is best used as part of an integrated pest management program.

Do not apply this product when rainfall is expected to occur 48 hours after application.

Safety Information

Ference Insecticide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.

Do not allow people or pets to enter treated areas until the spray has dried.

Special Considerations

Ference Insecticide will reduce the target pest species that may serve as a food source for beneficial arthropods. If this product is tank-mixed with an insect control product that negatively impacts beneficial arthropods, then the full benefit of Ference Insecticide to the IPM program may not be realized.
