Extinguish Professional Fire Ant Bait
Extinguish Professional Fire Ant Bait
Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait, manufactured by Zoecon, is a granular ant bait designed to control fire and pavement ants. It contains the active ingredient (S)-methoprene, an insect growth regulator (IGR) that inhibits the queen's ability to reproduce.
Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait contains an attractant so the targeted ants take it back to the colony where the queen feeds. Using an insect growth regulator bait does not immediately kill the ants, but it prevents mounds from relocating and from rebounding.
Tools Needed
To Apply Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait a handheld spreader or push spreader is needed. When treating individual mounds, we recommend using a spoon-like tool to apply the bait around the mound.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait You will need by calculating the square footage of the area you wish to treat. To do this, measure and multiply the area length times the width (length x width = square footage). To do a broadcast application, 3.5 tablespoons can cover 1,000 sq. ft. area. For individual ant mounds, 3 to 5 tablespoons should be applied per mound.
- Step 2: To begin a broadcast application with a push spreader, begin by filling the spreader with the correct amount of Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait. Adjust the spreader settings so that an even amount of bait can be applied to all turf or lawn areas. Begin pushing the spreader by starting at the outer perimeter of the lawn and work towards the middle until the entire area has been treated.
- Step 3: For treating individual mounds, sprinkle the Extinguish Pro evenly around the mound itself to a perimeter of four feet. DO NOT apply the bait directly over the top of the mound. Worker ants will find the bait quickly and begin taking it back to the mound to share with others, including the Queen.
- Step 4: Reapply every 10 to 12 weeks depending on the severity of infestation.
Where to Use
Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait can be applied to outdoor areas of residential and commercial properties. It is ideal for use on turfs, lawns, orchards, vineyards, ornamental beds, citrus groves, forestry sites, pastures, rangelands, school yards, roadsides, airports, cemeteries, zoos and more.
Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait can be applied to indoor areas as a crack and crevice or wall void treatment around doors, windows, attics, basements, and other areas where ants can come inside. It is ideal for use in homes, apartment buildings, commercial buildings, warehouses and other building structures where ants enter. It can also be applied to non-food and non-feed areas found in restaurants, food processing plants, and livestock facilities.
When to Use
Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait can be applied at the first sight of fire ants or pavement ants. Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait is most effective when used before an infestation develops. Avoid applying during the heat of the day or if it is wet or rainy as it can both reduce the effectiveness of the bait and the attractiveness of the bait to foraging ants.
Safety Information
Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait is safe to use around children, pets, and livestock animals when applied according to the product label. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment when applying Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait.
Special Considerations
Extinguish Pro Fire Ant Bait does not contain an insecticide that will kill the adult ants. It can be mixed 50/50 with an adulticide and used as a broadcast application or individual mound treatment.
