Drive XLR8 Crabgrass Killer

Kill Crabgrass With Drive XLR8

Drive XLR8 Herbicide is a fantastic alternative to Quinclorac and is a supreme crabgrass killer, tackling the stubborn grassy weed even when it is well established and matured. Drive XLR8 demonstrates impressive control over many problematic weeds such as crabgrass, topedograss, kikuyugrass, and even a number of broadleaf weeds such as clover, dandelion, foxtail among others.

Drive XLR8 has a water-based formulation which can be quickly absored by the target plant and is rain fast within an hour. Drive XLR8 is absorbed by roots, shoots and foliage, and translocated throughout the plant. Drive XLR8's formula works similar to auxins when targeting broadleaf plants while in grasses, it hinders the celulose biosynthesis process.

How To Apply Drive XLR8

To prepare Drive XLR8 for application, mix 1.45 oz of the liquid concentrate with water. For better results, we recommend using a surfactant to enhance the effectiveness of the product. Mix enough water that will allow you to sufficiently cover 1000 sq feet of turf.

If the soil is dry, be sure to irrigate your lawn after application with roughly 1/2 inch of water. Drive XLR8 can be tank mixed with other pre-emergent and postemergent grass herbicides without hindering its affect. It can also be mixed with postemergent broadleaf herbicdes.

It is recommended not to mow two days before or after application for best uptake of the chemical. When applying Drive XLR8, make sure the outside temperature is not below 55 degrees and not above 80 degrees.

When used according to the label, a 1/2 gallon of Drive XLR8 has the ability to cover about 1 acre of turf grass. A great benefit to Drive XLR8 is that i can be applied to many turfs before, during and after seeding to eliminate any pesky weeds while your new grass is being established.

My lawn is Bermuda grass and I applied Drive XLR8 to the crabgrass. It killed both the crabgrass and the Bermuda. What happened? Could it be that I sprayed too much? Will the grass grow back?
Bernie on Sep 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Drive XLR8 is a post emergent selective herbicide that is labeled for crabgrass as well many other troublesome weeds. According to the label, it states that Bermuda is highly tolerant to Drive XLR8 treatments but also notes that "yellow which occurs can be reduced by the addition of chelated iron or sprayable soluble nitrogen fertilizer." There is a chance that you may have sprayed too much.

While it is a selective herbicide, I'd still recommend spot treating the areas where the crabgrass is and trying not to get any on the bermuda.
Can I use this in my St Augustine grass lawn?
Mike M on Sep 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It would be considered susceptible to damage on St. Augustine if you apply the Drive XLR8.
how soon can dogs go back on lawn after spraying Drive?
benjie on Aug 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You should keep your dogs off the treated area for 2-3 hours following the application. After the product has dried there should not be any issues with your dogs using the treated areas. We do recommend that you take the time to read the Drive XLR8 product label and MSDS before you purchase the product as customers have different perceptions of what they feel is or is not safe for use on their property.

I live in Alabama and have a lawn of bermuda and centipede grasses and....weeds. Crabgrass is the most prominent one. I am a newbie (for sure!). In late June, I sprayed a vinegar mixture to kill weeds. After those turned brown (yay!), I tried to fill in some of the spottier areas. So, I dethatched, spread compost, seeded for bermuda, and spread topsoil in those spottier areas. I also reseeded the entire lawn. *sigh* The crabgrass is turning very green again. What should I do? Is Drive the right product? Should I add a fertilizer the mix in order to help the grass WHILE killing the weeds?
A shopper on Jul 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The Drive XLR8 would be perfect for the crabgrass but you would want to avoid applying to the new seeded section of Bermuda.
I live in the Columbia SC. I have Bermuda grass. The temperature can be extremely hot. Will this effect the application? Also should I add anything to help Drive to work properly?
Denny on Jun 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will not want to apply Drive to any lawn that is in stress from heat or drought.

Apply in the cooler times of the evening.
After applying the Drive xlr8, how long should I wait before I water in ? and should I strengthen the mixture if I plan to water it in ?
dewayne t on May 17, 2018

For best results, DO NOT water or irrigate for 24 hours after application. If rainfall does not occur in 2 to 7 days after application, irrigation of at least 1/2 inch is desirable."

BEST ANSWER: Yes, Bermuda is highly tolerable to Drive XLR crabgrass killer.
Is this product pet friendly ?
dewayne t on May 6, 2018

I live in Palm Springs ca ( very hot). I have used drive on my lawn to kill crab grass and it works great. However, I believe I also have yellow foxtail in my lawn. What kills that?
Cal P on Sep 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Here is a link to the Foxtail Control Page, https://www.solutionsstores.com/lawn-and-turf/grassy-weeds-control/foxtail-control.

Good idea is to apply a pre-emergent to the lawn to control and reseeding, and Drive will work for your yellow foxtail.
Will drive kill yellow foxtail?
Cal P on Sep 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, Drive XLR8 will work on Foxtail, the secret is that Spray coverage should be uniform and complete. It is recommended to not mow two days before or after application. Irrigation may improve weed control, if soil moisture is not sufficient. Drive XLR8 herbicide may be tank-mixed with other pre- and postemergent grass herbicides, along with postemergent broadleaf herbicides.

Pre-emergent such as Prodiamine is recommended in the spring and fall months. https://www.solutionsstores.com/prodiamine-65-wdg-barricade-herbicide
