Drexel AquaPen 3.8
Drexel AquaPen 3.8, manufactured by Drexel, is a pre-emergent herbicide that can be used to prevent and control many grassy and broadleaf weeds as they germinate. It has a lighter odor that improves the handling and application experience.
This emulsifiable concentrate product is a meristematic inhibitor that interferes with the plants cellular division or mitosis and cell elongation in the growing points of shoots and roots of the susceptible weeds. When the susceptible weeds germinate in the treated area they contact the Drexel AquaPen 3.8 and both the shoot and the root stops growing and the affected weed dies shortly after.
Drexel AquaPen 3.8 features the active ingredient pendimethalin 38.7% to rapidly control weeds before they emerge without leaving behind offensive odors.
Tools Needed
Drexel AquaPen 3.8 can be applied with a shielded sprayer, hooded sprayer, backpack sprayer, ground driven sprayer, or aerial application equipment.
Nozzle and in-line screens must be no finer than 50 mesh.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Drexel AquaPen 3.8 to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, you will need to measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take your square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acre). Depending on the crop, the application rates will vary. On cool-seasoned grasses, apply 1.1 to 1.6 fl. oz. of Drexel AquaPen 3.8 per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For short term control in non-turfgrass sites within landscape and ground maintenance, use 1.6 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For long term control in non-turfgrass sites within landscape and ground maintenance, use 3.2 fl. oz. of product per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. Refer to the product label for specific application rates.
- Step 2: Fill your selected sprayer with half of the required amount of clean water, add the measured amount of Drexel AquaPen 3.8. Fill the tank with the remaining half of water. Continue to shake the spray tank throughout the process until the solution is thoroughly mixed. This product will not mix in high salt formulation fertilizers such as 10-34-0.
- Step 3: Spray 20 inches above the ground with the Drexel AquaPen 3.8 mixture and leave an untreated buffer zone of 200 feet. If applied by air, leave an untreated buffer zone of 170 feet. Must use straight-stream nozzles (D-6 or larger). Rainfall or sprinkler irrigation within 7 days after application is required to move this product into the upper soil surface where weed seeds germinate.
Where to Use
Drexel AquaPen 3.8 can be used for alfalfa, artichoke, asparagus, citrus, pome, and stone fruit trees (bearing and non-bearing), grapes (bearing and non-bearing), brassica head, and stem vegetables, carrots, carrots grown for seed; corn (field, field seed, freshsweet, popcorn and popcorn seed) cotton; dry bulbs, edible beans, fallow, farmstead, forage grasses, fruiting vegetables, grain, sorghum, green onions, hops, lentils and peas; melons, mint, peanuts, perennial grasses grown for seed, potatoes, rice, safflower, soybeans, strawberries, sugarcane, sunflower, tobacco, triticale and wheat. It can also be used as a pre-emergent weed control herbicide in turfgrass, ornamentals, landscapes or ground maintenance. Non-bearing fruit and nut tree nurseries, conifer and hardwood seeding nurseries, tree plantations, and non-cropland areas.
Do not apply this product in greenhouses, shadehouses or other enclosed structures.
When to Use
Use Drexel AquaPen 3.8 before weeds begin to emerge, which is usually the early spring and fall. For best results, apply this product in the late Fall when soil temperatures are 45°F or below but before the ground freezes.
Do not apply this product during temperature inversions. Temperature inversions are characterized by increasing temperature with altitude and are common on nights with limited cloud cover and light to no wind. The presence of an inversion can be indicated by ground fog or by the movement of smoke from a ground source or an aircraft smoke generator. Smoke that layers and moves laterally in a concentrated cloud (under low wind conditions) indicates an inversion, while smoke that moves upward and rapidly dissipates indicates good vertical air mixing.
Safety Information
Drexel AquaPen 3.8 is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Do not feed forage or graze livestock in treated fields.
Do not allow people or pets to enter treated areas until 24 hours have passed after application.
Special Considerations
Uneven application of Drexel AquaPen 3.8 or improper soil incorporation can decrease weed control or cause crop injury. Soil incorporation deeper than directed can reduce weed control.
