Defendor Herbicide
Defendor Herbicide
Defendor Herbicide is a post-emergernt specialty herbicide that is effective in late fall and early spring and is designed to perform in cold weather. Its low rates and broad label make this both effective and economical.
Defendor Herbicide, manufactured by DOW/CORTEVA, is a powerful speciality herbicide that provides early control against emerged weeds within 30 days.
Features the active ingredient florasulam, which absorbs into the leaves, shoots and roots of susceptible broadleaf weeds for complete death.
Defendor Herbicide reduces consistent reapplications thus helping to save time and money. It can be applied in late fall or early spring, when temperatures are still cool — a time when other postemergence herbicides aren't effective.
Tools Needed
To apply Defendor Herbicide, you will need to use a backpack sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, or spray rig.
How to Use
- Step 1: Determine how much Defendor Herbicide to use by measuring the square footage of the treatment area. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply them together (length X width = square footage). For acreage, take the square footage and divide it by one acre (square footage / 43,560 sq. ft. = acres). Apply Defendor Herbicide to turfgrass at the rate of 4 fl. oz. per 100 gallons of water per acre or 0.09 fl. oz. per 1 gallon of water per 1000 sq. ft. Refer the label for specific rates.
- Step 2: Fill the sprayer tank with half the amount of water, add measured amount of Defendor Herbicide, then pour in the remaining half of water. Close the tank lid and shake until mixed.
- Step 3: Spray the Defendor Herbicide evenly to the top and bottom of weed leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff.
Where to Use
Defendor Herbicide can be used on established lawns, commercial sod farms, ornamental and sports turf (including sport fields, golf course fairways, roughs, tee boxes, unimproved turfgrass areas), and cemeteries.
When to Use
Apply Defendor Herbicide in late fall to early spring when the weather is cool and before dandelion bloom. Best weed control results are obtained when applied to small, actively growing weeds.
Safety Information
Defendor Herbicide is safe to use around children and pets when applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying this product.
Keep people and pets out of treated areas for at least 4 hours after application or until sprays have dried.
